Our young people are being desensitized to violence, a la school shootings and the like. #1 killer of children is guns in the US. Statistically, they are safer in Japan, or any other developed world other than the US.

Yes, but let’s be frank. Children being killed by guns is a very specific cohort. You can research what that cohort is pretty easily. You can also just read the major city newspapers every Monday morning to figure it out. If you remove that group the statistic that you cite changes appreciably.

Omg mostly it's suicides and accidental shootings. But yes this stat buries that only 2 - 3% of the gun deaths are from mass shootings

Instead of just paying people to sit and do nothing- imagine if we have out social services in exchange for them cleaning streets and picking up trash.

I remember when I lived in Germany, everyone would yell at you if you tried to jaywalk or litter. Hardworking societies can be very nice to live in.

One reason these countries have all these desirably features is that they have very homogenous and insular cultures. That's why crime is so low -- high social cohesion. They tend to be suspicious and unwelcoming of outsiders. It's great for people who are born there but I don't think it's as easy to just adopt those countries as your own as you might hope.

Do you have family there? How fluent are you?

Such a reasonable response.

You must be privileged if you have time to find a trash can.

Europe is better but I am too lazy to learn Italian German or French at this age.

I lived in China, Japan and Singapore as a white guy and loved it. Manila too. Maybe women need to change their attitude and get with the program

White men live just fine in the us too.

Yes but if you remove the specific cohort the remaining cohort is us. And the percent is much higher.

I asked my Japanese BIL some questions when we visited this year and the answers were telling.
On beer vending machines: "What prevents young kids from buying the beer?" "An old person would notice it and scold them. It would be very embarrassing."
On the men's side of the onsen (where he and my husband were taking nephew + sons): "What if there was some gay stuff going on over there, like in the sauna? Is someone watching everything?" (Appalled voice) "No one would stand for such a thing. The other men would probably become violent."
On his annual physical: "Are you really ok with your boss getting a copy of your physical?" "Of course. He needs to know that his workers have their health."

All minor.

Gays? Murdered in US. Blacks? Noose. Physicals? Lolololol. Millions of Americans haven't even been to the doc in years because of zero access. Ha, as if Americans would have self discipline of booze were freely available. Kids in US high schools are ODing on fentanyl and other opiates.

You're an idiot. The DCUM crowd in particular would freak if any of these norms were enforced here. The key word being NORMS. Just today people are saying there's nothing wrong with poly and you do you when it's horrible for the kids.

Preaching to the choir. Average U.S. citizen is quite dumb. Yeah, we all know that.

It is like DC; you can’t even live a single day in D.C. because you’ll be car-jacked; possibly multiple times per day. It’s statistics.

I can read it now: "Some Karen yelled at me for letting my kids drink, MYOB Boomer." "There's nothing wrong with kids witnessing an orgy in a locker room, sex happens." "My boss has no right to make me come in the office when I suffer from anxiety and need frequent breaks." You are the reason we aren't Japan!!!
