Capitol hill classic volleyball 2024

Metro gets invited to Triple Crown every year, because they are a top 50 team, but they don’t attend because they host Capitol Hill classic the same weekend.

As to the tournament being rigged or the refs favoring Metro teams, I think that's ridiculous. If you look at the performance of all the 30+ Metro teams (both Travel and the Regional teams) I think there is a broad spectrum of results consistent with what you would expect. As for the Metro Travel teams winning most of the Open divisions, if you watched the Metro Travel teams play, I think it was clear they were the the best teams at most of the age groups. Doesn't mean that the other teams were not competitive or that Metro didn't have to play well and work hard to win. But the fact that they did win, doesn't lead one to the conclusion that the tournament was rigged.

Personally I think individual awards are more rigged than game itself. Watch the online video of 13u 14u 15u of this year you can tell. Last year one age group metro got many awards but their team even not in the finals 😀

I don't think "watch the online video of 13u 14u 15u of this year" is a reasonable request. Do you mean "watch the finals for 13u, 14u, and 15u"? What should one look for to see that individual awards were rigged? It is hard to convince by simply saying "it's rigged" without providing any proof.

If you are not at the tournament, watch videos of the semi and finals. Compare with players not get the award in other team. Even in the same Metro team, another player(not got personal award) playing same position is better. If you don't know volleyball, you can not tell.

This is another unreasonable request. There were multiple awards and it is not clear which of them you don't agree with. I personally don't know enough volleyball to tell who deserves an award based on watching a few games. However, my assumption is that they offer the award based on stats, not just by simply watching the games. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Here is a question that I ask assuming that there are no stupid questions. We are new to these tournaments and we don't understand some of what happens in the volleyball world. I noticed that CHC used Sport Wrench for tournament management and the results never transferred to Advanced Event Systems. That means teams played a bunch of games that will not count toward their rankings. Does anyone know why? Is there a website that keeps track of all the games (those in Sport Wrench, Advanced Event Systems, and maybe other tournament management systems that I am not aware of)?

It is up to the club to manually submit results from a sportwrench tournament into the AES system- which most of the competitive clubs do.

When results from SportWrench (and other systems) are manually added to AES by a club, those wins and losses will be reflected in the AES ranking aggregate totals but you won't be able to see individual tournament finishes like you can for AES tournaments. Since Capitol Hill finished on Monday and the AES rankings are updated early Tuesday mornings, I'm guessing CHC results haven't yet been reflected in the AES rankings.

Adding to the complexity this year is USAV has introduced its own ranking system that only uses results from USAV sanctioned events https://usavolleyball.org/play/usa-volleyball-national-rankings/. So results from JVA, AAU, or unsanctioned tournaments won't be counted in calculating the USAV ranking. Capitol Hill is a USAV sanctioned event so those results will count. I assume that USAV will be using the new ranking system for seeding at National Qualifiers and for the National Championship tournament. This is the first season for the USAV ranking system and most clubs set their schedule in the fall, so I don't think most were able to consider the impact of this new ranking system. It will be interesting to see whether clubs that hope to attend USAV Nationals change the tournaments they typically attend to maximize their USAV rankings in future seasons.

As a first-time parent last year, the whole SportWrench vs. AES results tracking was rather annoying. I had hopes that the new USAV rankings would help unify things, but it just seems like an additional ranking system for now. I wonder how long it will take for clubs to start gaming the systems to boost rankings by opting in for some events and opting out of others.

Is CHC an USAV sanctioned event or not?

Yes, CHC is a USAV sanctioned event and it counts as one of the two required CHRVA tournaments that a team must play in to be eligible for CHRVA bid regionals.

This is weird then. Why don't the results transfer to AES? Why does the club have to request the transfer?

If you don't know enough vollleyball, it's hard for you to tell personal awards

This feels pretty snarky. Are you saying that personal awards don't have stats backing? Is it just very knowledgeable people talking to each other and rigging the awards?

I think that’s about it

For CHC, the various individual awards are determined by knowledgeable people who the tournament has evaluate certain divisions. It’s my understanding that an evaluator will be given a few divisions they are responsible for. Doing it by stats wouldn’t really be possible since there is no centralized source of stats. Any stats that exist are taken by the team/club or in some cases stats are generated by a paid service such as Hudl. So some teams will have detailed stats and other will have no stats.

Seems even the 14u setter in metro team better than the winner.

The Paramount 13u server is much better than the awarded. The 14 best receiver?
