Seems the competition level is on the decline? Good teams not attending? |
maybe teams are tired of Metro rigging it so their teams are in easier brackets, refs clearly favoring Metro teams (espeically travel) and somehow they win!?!? Cap classic is the Metro show and other teams aren't here for it.

My DD is part of a team that participated in the Patriot Division. Metro Travel was in Open and Metro Regionals were in Club, so we didn't have the chance to play against them. Decent amount of competition with teams coming from all over the place (I noticed Texas and Florida, besides the many local teams). I don't buy the narrative that this is somehow rigged and good teams are not attending. |
The Triple Crown was the same weekend. That’s a close second to Nationals in volleyball world. Paramount were there, not Cap Hill. It’s still a decent tournament but there’s a reason Metro win in every open division - all the teams capable of beating them are at the Triple Crown |
That's untrue. MDJRS won 13 open and I happened to be at the court. 3rd set metro leading 11:1 and then both coaches and players mentally and skillfully crash to lose 19:17. |
13s was the ONLY metro team that didn't win open divsion. There were plenty of good teams there that can beat Metro, but year after year they take most of the wins. This is the first year paramount went to triple crown instead of cap classic and other top teams on the east coast should follow suit. |
I don't think CHC has ever attracted the absolute best teams in the country. Perhaps the growth of Triple Crown has resulted in a few less good teams coming, but because you have to be invited to Triple Crown I don't think it's made that big of an impact (other than Paramount not attending this year for the first time).
As to the tournament being rigged or the refs favoring Metro teams, I think that's ridiculous. If you look at the performance of all the 30+ Metro teams (both Travel and the Regional teams) I think there is a broad spectrum of results consistent with what you would expect. As for the Metro Travel teams winning most of the Open divisions, if you watched the Metro Travel teams play, I think it was clear they were the the best teams at most of the age groups. Doesn't mean that the other teams were not competitive or that Metro didn't have to play well and work hard to win. But the fact that they did win, doesn't lead one to the conclusion that the tournament was rigged. |
Personally I think individual awards are more rigged than game itself. Watch the online video of 13u 14u 15u of this year you can tell. Last year one age group metro got many awards but their team even not in the finals 😀 |
I don't think "watch the online video of 13u 14u 15u of this year" is a reasonable request. Do you mean "watch the finals for 13u, 14u, and 15u"? What should one look for to see that individual awards were rigged? It is hard to convince by simply saying "it's rigged" without providing any proof. |
There were 5 Paramount teams that participated in CHC this year (12, 13 in Club, and 13, 14, 15 in Open). |
True - seems like they elected to keep their younger and 2nd teams local. There were Paramount teams in the 14-18 age groups at Triple Crown. |
I think "rigged" might be overstating it, but I do think the individual awards (which are subjective at best) generally only go to players on teams that get pretty deep in the gold bracket. I think it would be really hard for a player on a team that doesn't do well in the tournament to be recognized, no matter how great their individual performance might be. |
You want the awards to go to individuals who shine against tough competition. Shining in the silver bracket is nice, but it is not the same. Let's say you have more kills, but that may mean there was nobody there to block or dig successfully. |
If you are not at the tournament, watch videos of the semi and finals. Compare with players not get the award in other team. Even in the same Metro team, another player(not got personal award) playing same position is better. If you don't know volleyball, you can not tell. ![]() |
Paramount 14-18 1s team were invited because Paramount finished 5th at Nationals last year. The 2s team and the 13 and under were not invited so they attended Capitol Hill instead. |
