How about names to avoid? I saw a writer the other day named Diablo and it was a woman. Isn't that mean? I would never name my kid something like Lucifer or Diablo. Then again, I would pick fruit either, Apple? Maybe I'm conservative, I like names like Sarah & Michael.

Diablo's real name is Brooke.

I keep trying to figure out how old people are by which names they like -- somehow I assume the younger people are, the more likely they are to pick a top 10/20/100 name, because they've lived through several cycles of in today, dated tomorrow.

I don't know why I think that. I know a whole lot of moms my age (very, very old) whose kids are among the umpty-jillions of Jacks/Emmas/Madisons on the playground.

I love the baby name wizard linked on the first page -- my kids' names were all much more popular 50-70 years ago. I'm so staid.

Is it really Brooke? I wondered if she changed her name. Wow. Well, it's certainly unique.

Friends of ours who are artists named their kids: Magenta & Indigo. A banker friend named his son Cash. No kidding.

I like Indigo! I read about a Chinese woman who named her daughter India. I like that one too.

My dad had patients (sisters) named Asia, India, and America.

What about names that you used to like then met someone with that name that made you change your mind? I used to love the name Jade, but then met a snotty girl in grad school iwth that name and she ruined it for me.

Also have you heard funny names? The captain of our tennis team in HS was named Karma Good.

My favs:

Boys - Atticus, Charles
Girls - Charity, Ananda, Dharma (yes, like the TV show)
