Favorite baby name

I was distraught when Lily turned up at #12 on the 2007 SS name tracking list. I thought I had chosen such a pretty, un-common name for my little girl! I had never heard of another baby Lily. Now they're everywhere, and she's always going to have to go by first-name-last-initial.

Isn't it weird how our collective consciousness comes up with these things? I also loved Olivia and Ava years before I had my baby, and then those names got so popular. And I'm sure all those parents said the same thing-- that they had never heard of another one when they picked it! Strange.

As a side-topic, can you remember what names you liked when you were a child? I used to think that Lisa was the prettiest name ever, and I was convinced that I would name my someday-daughter Lisa. Now... uh-uh.

The book Freakonomics has a very interesting part about baby names and socioeconomic status of parents. Here's a link to a summary of it http://www.slate.com/id/2116505/

We have a 13 month old, Keira Madeline, but we have yet to encounter another one Owen is the boys name of the year, it seems. Our family knows 6 Owens under one year old, no joke.

I like the names Gabriel for a boy and Gabrielle for a girl, but can't stand Gaby or Gabe... so I am afraid to use them.

I love Elle for a Gabrielle. Where is Bronwyn from? I've never heard it.

Anyway, I loved Jessica as a child. I also think I liked Michael.
I still like both but wouldn't use them for my children.

10:42 - my friend had a baby girl last week and named her Keira but it was the first time I'd heard of anyone naming their baby that. On her list (which I can now share) was Lindsey, Lauren and Sydney.

For years my favorite girl name has been Haley. Unfortunately, my husband absolutely hates the name! My favorite boy name has always been Kevin, but it rhymes with our last name so I can't use that either. So the search for new names continues...

Boy favs: George, Charles (charlie), Addison and I do love Henry as so many have mentioned. We chose Adam for one of our children and apparently according to SSA, it is on its way out, there are no other Adams in his preschool and I only know of one other child named Adam who is a contemporary. Also, I loved the name Morgan & Hayden-my husband hated both.
Girl favs(which I'll never use since i have 2 boys and we're DONE): Audrey and Helen (very traditional, I know).

As a little girl, I loved the names Amy, Lisa and Jennifer (I'm named after my grandmother, so you can guess, my name is a VERY traditional name, which I hated as a child, but love now b/c of the very tradition my parents used when naming me) for myself. Names I liked to name a child, Cassandra (Cassie) and Alexandra (Alex).
