Well, folks, it looks like the first domino fell today with the ECNL (National League) announcement that they are adding 5 new clubs: Beach FC (VA), Florida Premier FC, Florida West, Pateadores (CA), and Rockford Raptors (IL). I for one don't mind trips down to the beach, it should be great competition because I know they always have good teams in all age groups-at least on the girl's side. I'm curious to see how much better they can be stepping up to the big leagues.

The Beach girls will be in the top half of the table. Boys somewhere mid table. Good pickup for the league. They will get better with consistently good competition. |
An adjacent domino falls with CCL being absorbed basically into USYS South Atlantic Region Premier 1.

This seems like a viable alternative to the ECNL regional league? The swinging between consolidation and new leagues seems never ending. |
Well, there goes Señor Anonymous' rumor that CCL and ECNL RL are merging. A few teams did abandon ship to go over to ECNL RL, but no merger. Looks like this league will be a step below ECNL RL. At least Viva la Revolution has found a league. Good for them. |
My understanding is that there was some real smoke to that fire, but it fell apart for whatever reason. Egos, probably. It also wasn't clear where it fell on the continuum between merger and acquisition. |
There are Virginia boys teams already playing in EDP that play ECNL RL. I presume because competition is not as good. EDP division 1 is better than ECNL RL. |
The first step. I posted about this on the 10th |
Still interesting that CCL hasnt stated anything on their website yet. Not sure if it will still be a league after this has happened. |
It’s not interesting at all unless you are employed by a league. Not. At. All. |
Well, the CCL has finally posted their plans.Looks like there is now only one competition level and the state has been divided into three regions. A few of the lower level teams remain and several lower end teams such as Valley AFC in Roanoke have made it in.
Fortunately, many of the better clubs that have left the CCL will be reunited in the ECNL-R as many have been acceprted. Best of luck to the remaining and new CCl clubs. |
Do you know if any of the northern Virginia clubs plan to stay in CCL for next year? |
Here is a link to their site and a graphic that shows the clubs. Looks like some of the stronger clubs only have their B teams in the CCL now.

I'm not sure why you say "fortunately many of the better clubs that have left the CCCL will be reunited in the ECNL-R." ECNL-R is the same as CCL. Not enough competition at the same level. Many of the boys ECNL-R teams are competing in EDP. Most likely due to the lack of competition just like CCL. |
Good point. But, ECNL-R offers a pathway to ECNL which has higher end competition. CCL is capped within their league. |
