My son is in first grade and has extreme difficulty learning to read. He's also been diagnosed with ADHD and has receptive/expressive language delays. Took him to a developmental optometrist who made a few diagnoses, including convergence insufficiency, but my gut told me I should get a second opinion. My pediatrician doesn't support vision therapy and urged me to take him to a pediatric ophthalmologist instead. I understand that ophthalmologists also do not support vision therapy so I’m wondering, if the ophthalmologist will be able to confirm the diagnoses the optometrist made and if so, how he will treat them.
As you can imagine, we have spent TONS of money and time trying to figure out what will help my son. He is struggling and we just want to streamline and prioritize and figure out the best and most effective course of treatment for him. Any insight/advice would be greatly appreciated. Between recommendations for OT, social skills groups, vision therapy, speech therapy (which he does do)- I'm a bit overwhelmed and don't know what’s causing what and where to start!

Just now logging back in and saw the last post. Thank you very much. Did your son learn how to swim with their swimming lessons? Also, any chance you live in or near Kensington? I'm trying to organize a carpool as well.
Does anyone know anything about Summer at Sandy Spring camp, held at sandy
spring friends school?
Do you have or know any kid(s) that have gone there or will go there this summer?
Looking for any and all insight, and to possibly start a carpool if I do decide to send my 6-year-old son there. We live in Kensington, MD.
Thanks!

I am thinking about enrolling my 4-year-old son in Tae Kwon Do classes. I hear its great for discipline and respect. Its very expensive, but if it really does improve on those things, then it would be worth every penny! Anyone have any insight on that? I am looking specifically at Black Belt Martial Arts in Kensington, MD. Any reviews on the place?
THank you!
Does anyone have any experience with Spring Academy Summer Camp in Kensington? (The school part of it is called Spring Bilingual Montessori Academy) The camp seems to be seperate and is not really Montessori or bilingual. I am thinking of sending my 3 year old son for a few weeks this summer-- seemed pretty good when I visited but would love some feedback from anyone whose actually been there. Thanks!
Hello. While my current home-based daycare is closed Sept 15-Nov.3, I need to find a place for my 18-month-old son. Any suggestions?
I have a 9-month-old baby boy. Instead of putting him in a typical daycare center, I am wondering if there are any stay-at-home moms out there looking to make some extra money by having my son join you in your home? I just need part-time care (about 4 days/week for 5-6 hours/day...the schedule is flexible and can change if necessary- my job is very flexible) Ideally I would like this to be in Bethesda or Kensington, MD.
Please let me know.
Thank you!

Does anyone know of daycare centers in downtown Bethesda (or close to downtown). I am interetsed in both centers and home-based daycares. I already know about Children in the Shoe and Wonders. If you know of any besides these 2, please let me know.
Thank you,
Karen
