Who does your boy currently play for? How do you not know what clubs are in Mont County? If he is that good, why would you not look at the nova clubs, Alex and Arlington?

As for the ECNL v GA inevitable debate and I know I'm biased, but there really is no debate, a club like FCV would leave GA in a heartbeat if they were offered an ECNL spot, the reverse would never happen as it would be a big downgrade in competition.

This post is spot on from what I’ve seen. Most RL players seem to have to leave their club if they want to move up.

GA has some great teams but doesn’t have the rep as a league. Here in NOVA it’s FCV or bust I think. Not sure where the Metro/ Alexandria partnership went though

It's a shame that Metro/ASA lost the GA; lot's of talented players for ASA and good coaches but now no pathway, top talent leave at pre-ecnl age.

For high level 11v11 (ECNL, GA, etc), it should 100% be earned. No preference for manager’s kid there. I haven’t seen that on my kid’s ECNL team.

For 11v11 mid-level or lower level (NCSL & EDP lower divisions), I’m fine with the manager’s kid getting a little extra.

I will add, that for higher level teams, the manager is typically a parent of one of the players in the top tier of players on the team. One who has a good relationship with the coach and has positive attitude regarding coach, team, club, etc. It's not going to be a bottom tier player parent, where you tend to see the most grumblings. I did it for 1 year, but quickly found that for the amount of work being put in and having parents complain about hotel choices, costs, social activities, etc it wasn't worth it. Of course those were the same parents that didn't volunteer to do anything. Also, being team manager had no influence over playing time, nor should it.

ECNL Aug 14

Season never ends!
runrmom wrote:Ok. I have emailed and talked to multiple coaches from multiple local teams. I think the problem is that DD is right in between a top top team and a second team. She has not had the coaching and maybe not the skill for the top top teams but is not challenged in practice and gets frustrated in games on lower teams. The second problem is that options in MontCo are very limited at that level and we can’t drive more than 30 min on a weeknight for practices. So we have tried all of the clubs within 30 min and she has not landed on a “great” fit yet. I think we will stay where we are for now and look for guest options with other teams. I will also say that coaches are busy, and getting a response is hit and miss. I don’t sell my DD as the next Chloe Ricketts, but rather try to be honest about her development. Thanks to all for insights.

So you did some homework, you're welcome! ECNL-R and EDP are good places to start looking at.
runrmom wrote:To ECNLDD: this is why people don’t want to play ECNL. The parent arrogance is really astounding.

Mostly joking, but the point as other posters have also mentioned, is what have you done?? You come one the board, ask a question and then are not happy with any of the responses. Care to provide the board with an update? Lot of useful information was provided to you. No one really cares if you dd plays ECNL or not.

I am assuming this is a joke… ok, note to self: DCUM generally not authentically helpful! Live and learn.

How did the trainings go the other day? please provide us with your list of clubs and coaches you contacted.
runrmom wrote:Ok, this is all quite general but the question was actually really specific. Is anyone able to name any clubs that are open to tryouts? Clubs that are done as far as I know: Bethesda. Potomac. PPA.
Am I missing any top clubs or top teams on large club that are still open in the MontCo area?

Oh ok, now I understand your question. DC Soccer club is still holding "tryouts" they have an open spot. I told the coach you would be coming to their training, ehh tryouts, tomorrow at 6:30pm field 5.
runrmom wrote:In normal season yes, but right now I think the timing is bad. The season is over, summer is starting, I don’t know any teams holding practices over the summer. Also this assumes that I know the coaches to reach out to, which I don’t; hence the post.

Season is not over if they are a really good 2010 team. At least 4 of those 2010 teams are going to SD, so they are practicing. It's not hard to figure out who the coach is, may take about 15 minutes of your time. Most clubs also do Super Y in the summer, so that is another option for you.
runrmom wrote:Are there any really good 2010 girls teams left with open roster spots? MontCo, not Virginia unfortunately.

There are always open spots for a good player. Just email the coach to attend a training.
We are staying with our club, but just curious who is moving, why, and from where to whom? Mostly just curious about ECNL and GA. Seem like there is a lot more movement this year.
Heard rumors that they lost GA patch for next season? Anyone have some info?
brsmith wrote:I'm not sure how common this is, but we've had two kids who played up- one regularly, the other on occasion.

OP- You mentioned your kid is bored in their age group. Have you considered joining a more challenging team (on age level)?

Agreed, try playing for a club that has an ECNL team; trust me she would not be bored with the competition. Unless your DD is starting for top age up team, playing significant minutes and is a difference maker; i would stick to your age group. Only a handful of those players in DMV area.

Most times kids end up playing up because they are leaving a club to a new club and that is one of the parent demands. Rarely works out.

Alexandria is such a nice area. I spent a lot of time in Del Ray and had a lot of friends there when our kids were babies and in preschool. Every single one of us moved or went to private school by mid elementary. Save yourself the hassle. Don’t move there. It’s really wonderful when you are working adults with no kids but our lives and priorities changed fast. Don’t do it.

Listen to this person. They are 100% correct. And don't delude yourself like I did and think elementary will be ok and by the time my kid gets to middle school or high school, the issues will be resolved.

I actually did find elementary to be ok. The academic part of GWMS has been good, but the social part has not been great. We are ready to moving to private for high school.

We will do the same.
