I see what they are trying to do but it seems like this bill will also have a negative impact on women, as it seems like the bill will allow anyone who identify as women to use the restroom or join womens sports/leagues for example. Am I misuderstanding this? I saw the bill and it seems like it will lead to this in some cases. I don't have anything against LGBTQ, I believe everyone needs to be treated with respect but I think this is a huge gray area that needs to be discussed further as other people who may not be LGBTQ could abuse,I can imagine perverys/pedos abusing this act.

As a lesbian, I am unequivocally opposed to it because it has nothing to do with extending rights to LGBT people and everything to do with undermining the basis of women’s civil rights in the US and protections from sex-discrimination. Last June in its Bostock decision, SCOTUS held that LGBT people were protected from discrimination under currently existing federal civil rights law...so, there’s precisely no reason to redefine sex as gender identity unless the entire point is undermine women’s sex-based rights.

The Equality Act is the most extreme example of prioritizing the validation of men’s ego [self-concept/personal identity] at any cost to women and girls. There are over 200,000 women incarcerated in the US [80% non-violent offenders], many who are old and disabled that would be forced to house with prolific serial rapists based on his claims to have a woman gender identity (wtf does that even mean anyway?).

If passed, elderly and sick women would no longer be guaranteed a female caretaker but one with a feminine gender identity who could very well be male.

It is an awful bill. It has nothing to do with protecting LGBT people and everything to do with stripping women of sex-discrimination protections. In June, SCOTUS issued its Bostock decision making it clear that LGBT people are already protected under existing federal rights law...so, the bill isn’t extending rights to anyone but merely removes women’s existing sex-based rights.

This is a great analysis of the dystopian consequences that the Equality Act will have on women and girls:

Same here, it’s so messed up...

What passes for “leftwing” in US politics has become almost the inverse of leftwing politics. In the early 2000s it was religious conservatives burning JK Rowling’s books and in 2020 it is the “self identified left”. Unfortunately, its not looking like a phase either.
