To the previous poster-- hey, maybe we can get on the phone and discuss the possibility of a nanny share. My niece is visiting for 2 more weeks and helping me take care of our baby, but one she's gone... if I don't find a nanny I'm going to have to quit my job. If you're interested, email me at fabiola_rodriguez@yahoo.com
Interesting that you'd get fired. I've worked on the Hill for MoCs and have spent good part of my days speaking in my first language-- Spanish to other Congressional staffers. Never ever got in trouble. Of course, I speak in English to people who are not as lucky as I am to be bilingual. But agree with you about not wanting my child to learn slang in any language.
I'm a new parent living technically on the Hill (we live in SW). Good luck finding quality day care centers on the Hill! I've been desperately looking for a nanny or a good day care in the area with no success. I consulted the Fagon's directory and the Hill Rag and found no ads for daycare centers--- oh, but there are dozen of doggy day-cares in the area.... I guess it reflects the workaholic population that lives in our neighborhood.
Wow, what you're describing is stunning --that parents would ask teachers to speak only English. I'm not a lawyer but I think the teachers could sue the daycare center. Too sad that mono-lingual parents feel they have to force people to speak only English at all times in front of them.
Can anyone give me some insight on services provided by Bright Horizons please?
