I am a reporter looking to speak with parents about child care on Capitol Hill. I am working on a story about the options in the area and the needs of the working parents. Please reach out if you have anything to say about this subject.

I'm a new parent living technically on the Hill (we live in SW). Good luck finding quality day care centers on the Hill! I've been desperately looking for a nanny or a good day care in the area with no success. I consulted the Fagon's directory and the Hill Rag and found no ads for daycare centers--- oh, but there are dozen of doggy day-cares in the area.... I guess it reflects the workaholic population that lives in our neighborhood. |
I am soo glad to see your comment regarding the doggie day care!! I thought I was the only one that felt that way. I too live in SW and it is very hard to find daycare in the area... I too looked in all those local papers and was amazed to see how many ads there are for pet care! Basically unless you work for the feds you are going to have a hard time finding something. |
To the previous poster-- hey, maybe we can get on the phone and discuss the possibility of a nanny share. My niece is visiting for 2 more weeks and helping me take care of our baby, but one she's gone... if I don't find a nanny I'm going to have to quit my job. I, too, live in the area, & childcare is scarce. And the very few there are, have an enormous waiting list. I was able to get into Board of ChildCare on 15th & C St, SE, & I like it. The facility is big & bright, & they have a great rooftop playground. But, once my child turns 2, I will be looking for something more structured in terms of curriculum. Not sure if that's going to be on the Hill, either. I'm checking out programs all over DC. Unfortunately, with all the developments in Capitol Hill, not much attention has been focused on childcare...Like the other posters said, you're good to go, if you have a dog... |
Hi,
I live in SW also and have been looking for childcare for the past nine months. I wish I had known living in this neighborhood would make it impossible to get childcare. For thos of you moms still looking, I'm open to nanny share if you are interested. You can contact me at stf124@gmail.com. |
I have been reading all of the posts from mothers saying that there are no good child care centers on the Hill and I would just like to say that I am moving to the area and am planning on starting a home day care. I have my BS degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in early childhood education, as well as over 12 years experience with children from birth to four, including 8 years experience as a nanny - all with exceptional references. If you are interested please send me an email at umlefty@gmail.com |
I am a Federal employee who works in SW and can't locate childcare. My agency's daycare is full and all the other facilities preference their own agency employees and I can't seem to get off a waitlist. |
