For anyone looking for childcare - we are moving from our wonderful daycare because I need to shorten my commute so there is a spot opening at the end of February.

Evergreen Montessori is on Thelma Circle in Vienna around the corner from Meadow Lane Park. It is a new program run by an experienced and very loving Montessori teacher out of her home. It's quite small so your little one gets the benefit of lots of 1-on-1 attention in a Montessori environment. It's also quite affordable and has 3:30 and 5:30 pick up options. Ages 2.5 (potty trained) and up.

I'd love to help them fill our spot, so please PM me if you want to know more about it.
Hi, we're moving just to the west of Westwood Country Club in Vienna and are trying to figure out what pools to apply to. Cardinal Hill seems closest but the wait list is endless. Hunter Mill is pretty far (15 minutes) but does closely border Wolftrap Elementary district so it's possible that although not in our immediate neighborhood, other families from our elementary school might go there. Anyone know where people who live in that area or go to Wolftrap Elementary tend to go to the pool? Vienna Woods and Vienna Aquatic and even Dunn Loring are a bit closer of a drive than Hunter Mill but it doesn't seem like people from our area/school would necessarily go there. Thanks!
We are moving to the area from out of state right after Christmas 2016. Our older daughter is 3.5 (4 in March), and I'm worried she will be lonely. Anyone have a playgroup going in the area out a daughter of similar age and open to playdates? We will be in temporary housing by Dunn Loring metro until we find a house but are committed to finding a home in Vienna. I know at this age parents getting along is key so we are both professional, late thirties liberal- leaning laid back sorts moving up from Atlanta. Our younger daughter is almost 2 in case anyone has kids of both ages. Thanks!
We are considering Rainbow childcare, a home based program in Vienna, for our almost 2 year old daughter. Does anyone have experience with that program they can share? Thanks!

If by early next year you mean January, please PM me. I'd love to find out more!

Oops I wasn't logged in when I replied. Is there a way to private message me on here? Would love to know more. Thanks!

Houses have sold recently that would have been good fits so I know it's possible. I tried reaching out to a shouse agent but she won't tell me anything because I already have an agent. Was hoping someone from shouse might be lurking on here! Or lake vale our a house with cardinal membership. Thanks!

Are you trying to avoid brown people? Because that is what your post sounds like.

Nope, just coming from out of town so purely going by Great Schools scores. I don't have time to personally go explore schools so have to go with what I can easily access. All of the schools I listed are below a 7 on Great Schools. All for diversity and good scores.

We're fine with Marshall. I forgot to mention it above. It's more a matter of excluding the schools I listed. I've looked at everything on the market in this area, too, but if there is something we haven't considered, I'd love to take a look! I forgot to mention, I would exclude South Lake pyramid as well.

We would as long as it's less than 15 minute drive from Vienna metro. If so, let me know how I can follow up. Thanks!
Not finding anything I love in Vienna yet, so crossing my fingers someone has an unlisted house they want to sell? 4/3 minimum, with at least some flat backyard, not on major road, highly rated schools at all levels. Budget depends on quality and need for renovations but let's say 800-975. Preference for open kitchen/family room and a neighborhood with young kids. Thanks!
Anonymous wrote:What are your housing criteria OP? How soon are you wanting to buy? We are thinking of selling our 5 bdrm 3.5 ba house in Madison pyramid. Nottaway Park and the Metro. Houses in this subdivision are selling for upper 800's and right at 900. 1993 build.

We want to buy pretty soon. Our house goes on the market Monday and we're coming up to Virginia to tour houses next Thursday/Friday to get things rolling. DH starts new job in early December so trying to move at least relatively quickly but can do temporary housing for a bit if we can at least land on the right area so we can get daycare squared away. Yours sounds like it could fit so I'd love to connect! We're looking for minimum 4 bedrooms/2.5 baths, a flat grassy backyard with at least enough room for a playset, and a kitchen that is either already open to den or could be renovated to be that way. If that sounds like your place, let me know how I can reach out to you directly. Thanks!
OP chiming back in. Thanks for all of the replies. Since my original post, DH has accepted a job close to Farragut West/North in DC, and I'll be working from home. For ease, we're limiting our search to Northern Virginia. And my budget has gone up after some research and discovering that our current house's value has spiked. So we'll be looking up to $900K and focusing in McLean, Falls Church (McLean pyramid), and still considering Vienna.

We're going up next week for the first time so I will see for myself what these areas are like. Since he'll be taking metro, it seems like Vienna isn't that different from McLean in terms of commute time but I am definitely noting the concerns that the metro parking in Vienna might be tougher than McLean. It seems like some parts of Vienna actually put you closer to the McLean metro than to the Vienna one.

It will really come down to where we can find a house we like in a reasonable time frame.

Given those changes to our plan, do people think that generally these areas make sense?

PP, we have to pick some daycares to tour while we're touring homes, so any suggestions are welcome!
We're moving to the area in early December and I'm getting really stressed about 1) finding a daycare option we like 2) actually getting the kids in asap. We haven't found a house yet, so we have to make our best guess about location and apply to a couple probably. We'll most likely live in McLean, Vienna or the part of Falls Church that's in McLean school district. My kids will be almost 2 and 4 when we move up and are currently at a Montessori.

I will be working from home, so I need the girls in daycare 5 days a week, until at least 3 everyday. I prefer curriculum like Montessori or Reggio Emilia but I'm open to other progressive options. We'll be doing public school after, so I'm not concerned with being at a private school feeder, but I'd prefer an educational model that let's them pursue their interests and sets them up for a lifelong love of learning. Ideally nothing too rigid since they're used to the free-flowing Montessori approach.

We currently pay $19K/year for daycare per child, and I am hoping not to go any higher since that's already a fortune! I'd prefer to have both girls at the same place, but if I have to I'd do two drop-offs close to each other until I could get them in the same program.

Any recommendations for daycares/pre-schools we should look into? Thanks!
