Yes! PM me if you're still interested.
Need recommendations for a psychologist or therapist in the Reston/Herndon/Sterling/McLean/Tysons area that takes insurance. DH and I are looking for someone to help us with strategies for our 5-year-old.

OP here: A good day is one where he keeps his hands, feet, and spit to himself.
I feel clobbered. To make a long story short, my 5 year old was diagnosed as combination ADHD by a developmental-behavior pediatrician who came highly recommended by our regular pediatrician. She gave my DH and myself evaluations, met with our child, and received evaluations from his Montessori teacher.

She is referring us to a family psychologist so we can learn how to best interact with him as well as modify some behavior. We’re already starting a sticker reward chart where 5 stickers (each sticker is for a good day at school) equals something fun for him (his choice).

His impulsive behavior is causing problems at school and our doc suggested Rx. We’re going to start with behavior modification. I want that to be our last choice.

He has a late summer birthday so we are planning to stay at Montessori for Kindergarten, then see if he’s ready for 1st grade next year, if not, he’ll do K again at the public school.

What should I do now?
Should I get a second opinion? He wasn’t borderline, he was a “classic” case.
Should I reach out to FFX county special education (we are in the Reston area) for evaluation?
Are there resources/groups for parents?
I ordered Taking Charge of ADHD, any other book recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

just keep swimming...

I need to get to Bethesda (right off 495/270) from Great Falls (near rt 7 & 193) between 8-9:30am during the week. Are there any times between 7-8:45 where the traffic has lulls? Is 193 better than the toll road or vice versa? Is there a better navigation app than Waze?

Or should I just download another book onto my Audible?
When our son was born my husband let everybody know that only he or I could drive our son. Across the board—nobody.

Now our tot is 4 and my mom’s lobbying to be able to drive him around. It’s true that my mom is a bad driver. In the past 10 years, she’s had a few accidents, including totaling a car 2 years ago. And she may have totaled a rental car 8 years ago.

My mom lives across the country so only sees him 2-3 times year. She just wants to be able to drive him to the library, pool, park or to do errands, etc. Sometimes when she visits it’s because his school is closed and she cares for him so we can work. Then I really feel like a jerk. My mom is an A+ grandma and I know she’s never intentionally hurt one hair on his head.

She’s visiting soon and really wants to drive him. And she’d be okay with limits, like no freeway driving (she is terrible on the freeway). I’m ready to relent and let her take him around but my husband isn’t. He doesn’t even like it when I ride with her.

Advice?
Sorry for the double post, I thought this one didn't work
Is anyone familiar with the Village Green Day School in Great Falls? What's the scoop?

We're also considering the Boyd School in Reston.

Any feedback on these schools is appreciated!

Hi! We're looking for a full-time daycare near Forestville Elementary school for our sweet pea who is 3.5. Thanks in advance for all recommendations!
So we’re interested in a house in Great Falls near Leesburg Pike and Springvale Road. My office is in Bethesda near the Montgomery Mall. Right now we’re in the Wheaton area and it takes about 20 minutes to get to work and 35 to get home.
I don’t want to live in a great place…and then spend all of my time in my car. A few questions:

1. Navigation estimates show it takes around 30-40 minutes each way during rush hours—does that sound about right?
2. Are there any times where it would be closer to 25 minutes? My job can be flexible-ish.
3. If you commute from Great Falls/Reston to Bethesda, what advice do you have?
4. Is living in Great Falls (space, great schools, quiet) worth the drive and being pretty far out of town?

Thanks in advance!
