Support Group for Parents with Special Needs Children?

Anonymous
Does anyone know of a support group in either DC or Northern VA for parents of special needs children? I sometimes feel so overwhelmed, and would love to attend a support group.

Thanks,
Tara

McLean Bible Church has a support group for parents of children with special needs the last Sunday of every month at 12:30. They also have a variety of speakers throughout the month on various topics (epilepsy, financial planning, etc.).

JSSA -- Jewish Social Services Agency has support groups. You don't have to be Jewish to participate and they don't have a religious bent. My guess is that McLean bible Church does approach things from a religious perspective.

PP here -- another reason to contact JSSA is that they have social workers on staff to give you one-on-one support. They have a northern VA office. I don't have the url, but they have a website.

I would also be interested in meeting other parents of special needs children
- I'm in NoVa.

I've been involved with McLean Access Ministries for years, but haven't gone to church there the whole time. Its very much an outreach to the community. There are some Christian overtones, but there is not any pressure, just lots of love and caring. Jill's house, a respite center just recently started for children with special needs, will be a very special help to overburdened parents who never get a break.

Don't hesitate to contact Access Ministries for help, no matter what religion you are. It doesn't matter to them, and you don't have to be a church member.
