Social Emotional Learning Questionnaire for 3-12 grade

Anyone know when the SEL Questionnaire happens? This Fall? Winter? And any advice from parents whose kids have taken before? This will be first time ours would take, and I can already hear ours peppering teacher non-stop with questions. Like for the "When things go wrong, how calm are you able to stay?" ours would ask, "What kind of things?" and more. For others that have kids that ask questions before answering questions, would you tell your kids if they're not sure how they feel on any question to just go middle of road or leave blank? And yes, I am way over-thinking this, but curious anyway. Thanks,

It’s a pointless exercise designed to make the SB feel good. You are overthinking it way too much. It just doesn't matter. At all.

The questionnaire is about how the student feels, not about how the parent tells the student to feel.

At my MS, it is happening in the next few weeks. This is the first year it is being given. This quarter alone, our school is dealing with a reading inventory, a grammar diagnostic, a math inventory, Cogat for kids who dont have scores yet, the sel assessment and the fall SOL thing (whatever they are calling it). It is insane that they are adding one more thing!

Good grief. This is awful. Who designed it? Who thought this was a good idea? Has this been validated, gone through a trial?

How about observing the students instead? Talking notes on concerning behaviors?

I can just see the difference in how a drama queen would fill this out vs a kid who won't admit she has feelings.

This is useless, but could lead to troubling decisions on the part of staff.

The questions are very peculiar.

OP here and totally and 100% agree questions for students. If mine were even little older, think they would understand the questions and be able to answer. As read through replies-- and thanks to everyone that replied-- probably rather than ask question, maybe I should have just said wish the kids answering on their own didn't start until middle school. But oh well.

A bunch of morons must have designed this questionnaire. It would not be surprising to find that FCPS spent $50K to $100K to outside consultants to come up with this.

Covid funds at work.

Very curious where in the country someone could answer "very" to this question:

14. How confident are you that students at your school can have honest conversations with each other about race?

Question #3 — Teens would likely answer this the same way regardless of race. That question should be on a different, more focused survey.

Is that the survey that asks about parent political views, parent alcohol use, parent drug use...?

That is different and given to 8th grade (and maybe hs?) in the spring. I believe that is created outside of the school system and the data also goes to Fairfax County.

Virginia DOE required them to do one. I'm mad both about that AND that they spent Covid funds on it.

If it's like every other FCPS survey I've seen, no one "designed" it or validated it.

These surveys are useless.

There’s a company name on it. Panorama Education. FCPS paid them for this.
