It looks like youth's are now kidnapping people and forcing them to reveal their ATM/Debit/Credit Card PINS and simply driving them around to ATM's in the trunks of their car.
Robbery victims attacked on D.C. streets, forced to give up bank information https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/dc-abductions-atms/2021/08/30/36e8c064-09c4-11ec-9781-07796ffb56fe_story.html Standard threat of violence, followed by being bound and blindfolded and then driven around to eventually be released. I am sure that the apologists will say that this happens in such small numbers that it does not count. But it is something else to think about now and how you would react. |
| They are not hurting anyone... So I suppose we have that going for us. |
| Actually DC apologists are more likely to claim that these crimes are happening due to systemic racism or because the kidnappers needed money to buy food or pay for AC in this hot summer. |
Racism? Article never mentioned the race of the perpetrators. Just as likely to be AU or Georgetown kids (of any race) who need beer money for the weekend. |
The WTOP article has photos. Not Georgetown kids. Not kids at all, really - look like mid 20s to me. https://wtop.com/crime/2021/08/dc-police-seek-suspects-in-string-of-armed-kidnappings/ |
WaPo is careful to avoid that, the surveillance photos are all over less PC outlets |
| This sux. Can the defund the police folks just send the police to out neighborhood? Win:win. |

have the victims suggested the criminals talk to a social worker? |
| This isn’t really new. When I lived in Adam’s Morgan in the 90s, there was a rash of similar crimes. The guys would hide outside your house in the bushes, force you at gun point into your house, tie you up and keep you there while they would take the max out of your atm multiple days running. This is why atms have a daily max that is not particularly high. |
“They are not hurting anyone.” Yes they are. The experience of being robbed by an armed criminal, let alone kidnapped and transported about, will never leave the victims. The idea that being a kidnap/robbery victim is somehow a minor inconvenience is completely unfeeling. |
| Charles Allen says they were just good Samaritans helping DC residents locate ATMs and then pocketing the withdrawals as their rightful fee. |
This statement cannot be for real. Not hurting anyone? What about the trauma of being kidnapped at gunpoint and the threat of being shot if you don't comply? What about the fact that many of these types of crimes go wrong and someone gets killed? What about the fact that one victim was knocked to the ground and punched in the face? This is insanity if people think that this type of crime is no big deal! |
Wow DC is so bad. Lucky this never happens outside DC…right!

I was just coming to say how old school DC this was. |
