I woke up today with the feelings of a UTI and pain got worse, had to go to L&D for the culture (no results yet but the initial 40 minute one said no UTI). I was prescribed keflex or cephalaxin 500 mg 4 times a day.
I don’t even take Tylenol or tums I’m so strict about medication so needless to say I’ve been bawling all day from pain and anxiety. Have any of you had UTIs? Did you get such a high dose without the culture results? I took one a few hours ago and I feel better I don’t have that pressure and pain. But of course I’m now spotting and waiting for doctor to call me back. Share your UTI and antibiotics safe use healthy babies stories with me. And how can I not get these? I haven’t had sex in a long time I wipe right I drink water what happened? |
| I hope you’re seeing a therapist. It’s very common to get UTIs and yeast infections while pregnant. Relax and take the meds your doctor gave before the infection gets worse. Your baby won’t have 8 heads. |
OP - i didn’t want to say it I do have very very very high anxiety I’m 25 weeks only so baby is still developing. I’m literally the only one pregnant in my circle of friends and family so hearing these stories helps and is comforting.

Cephalexin is safe for pg. Uti is dangerous for pg.

| Also if you questions about drug safety and dosing you could check with your pharmacist too. |
| You need to drink a LOT. I had UTIs for years and only when I started drinking tons of water after any possible thing that could cause one did they get under control. Also, there was nothing that would help except antibiotics, until I tried D- Mannose. It's amazing. If I start to feel one I can pop some and it will disappear. It's a sugar so should be fairly safe during pregnancy |
|
I love D-Mannose too but it can raise blood sugar. May not be a good idea if someone has GD. OP should check with her doctor.
Also OP: cephalexin (like many antibiotics) can cause a yeast infection. Take some probiotics too. |
| Cephalexin is perfectly safe for pregnancy. I have to take antibiotics before sex because my UTIs were so bad that symptoms wouldn’t go away once the infection did. I’ve use cephalexin during two pregnancies. Both kids are smart, healthy, happy. If you are having this kind of reaction to this, and I say this with kindness and no judgment, you need to look into building coping skills now before baby comes. |
| Drs know which antibiotics are safe. Woman with bad Lyme disease take antibiotics throughout pregnancy to help ensure they don’t pass anything on to their baby. |
| I took d mannose in both pregnancies for UTI prevention and have two healthy kids. If you’re susceptible it’s a godsend. |

Been there, done that OP. Talk to your OB. |
| OP - I’m so angry at myself why could I have done differently? I’m annoyed no one told me about d mannose before. And yes I have this fear it’s affecting the baby with each pill I take. I just want this pregnancy to be done because I’m so tired of worrying about every little thing and shit still goes wrong. I’m just venting. |
If you’re worried about every little thing going wrong in the pregnancy, it’s actually not going to go away upon the baby’s arrival. It will likely get worse as there are a thousand more variables once the baby arrives. Please talk to someone about your mental health now as postpartum is a horrific cocktail of sleep deprivation, healing, feeding baby, and hormones layered on top of worries about the baby. It can be very, very rough. |
OP - I have a 3.5 year old and I get it postpartum was brutal but …if I was in pain I took the meds without a thought and the baby was okay and not up to “me” I feel like I screwed up and keep screwing up with these antibiotics, it’s only up to me I’m the pregnant one. Anyway I’m taking them as prescribed still in pain, and just hoping it’s okay. I read only like 8% of pregnant women get UTIs so of course I feel like shit. |
| When I was pregnant with DC, I had to take antibiotics twice in the 1st trimester. I was very worried, but DC is perfectly healthy. In fact, he has the best immune system and rarely gets sick even if others in the family are sick. |
