Now testing is opt-out, not opt-in

Parents of D.C. Public Schools students will now need to opt-out of COVID-19 testing, Mayor Muriel Bowser said Friday.

That goes for students at all DCPS schools as well as public charter schools participating in the District’s testing program.

The move goes into effect Monday, the first day of classes.

Previously, parents needed to opt-in by way of a consent form.

Great news, thanks for sharing!

Good.

We got into a school late of the waitlist and had asked several times if we could opt-in to testing but never got a straight answer. This is better. Why make it harder on schools?

Also, form a legal perspective, I think the public health reasons for doing it this way are compelling enough that the burden on families is warranted. Especially because the alternative (no IPL) is much more burdensome. I can't remember the price test courts use for something like this, but I've heard of much more burdensome laws being upheld for less significant public health reasons.

How do we opt out?

Does anyone know who we submit the opt out form to?

Testing should NOT be optional. Every one, regardless of vaccinated status, should be tested every single week during the school year, and failing that, should not be admitted to school until a negative PCR test can be provided.

Nope. That's not the policy. Many of us are opting out.

Send it to me I’ll make sure it gets to the right trash can

I think this is good, but I also think it's funny that the "it's unsaaaafee" crowd will celebrate opt-in (which is generally understood to impair choice and autonomy) when they were making such a huge fuss about the supposed liablity waiver (which had basically no legally binding impact and minimal effect on rights.)

I know that's not the policy. But it should be. And you should not be opting out, you irresponsible so-and-so.

No idea what you're talking about. Has to be garbage, as usual.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why we will be suffering for a long time. Why hospitals are currently running out of beds. Why our children will likely get covid. Because of these astonishingly selfish people amongst us.

x2..testing should be a requirement for in person school. Maybe I am missing but I don’t understand why someone would opt-out

I hope this leads to a "test and stay" policy, where instead of quarantining, kids can just get tested every day. UK found that this was equally as effective as quarantine.

They don't want Larlx to have to stay home and be quarantined.
