Now testing is opt-out, not opt-in

In our primary classroom, we've been told that if any 1 kid tests positive, the entire class of ~29 kids has to quarantine at home for 10 days. So honestly, we're opting out. Screwed anyways, so we're not subjecting DC to being tested at school.

This is really what they need to do. Statistically, most positives will be false.

They did this in Utah as well. Even the CDC took note:

There is no legit reason to do screening testing on an asymptomatic vaccinated student in a school environment where everyone has the option of getting vaccinated. And I'm not risking the possibility that a false positive will derail my child's education.

I also happen to think the "opt out" model is illegal and the school district has no business doing medical testing on my child without my consent.

They don't recommend testing vaxxed students anyway.

Yeah, I would be for asymptomatic random testing if DC wasn't idiotic about testing.

Yep. Opting out all 3 of my kids. Two are vaccinated. one will be old enough this fall. I want them in school. If they're symptomatic we'll test them at home and quarantine. I do not want DCPS involved and there are way too many false positiveS. We're in medicine (doctor and nurse). know many others who are also electing to opt out.

Exactly. Just don’t have any faith in DCPS to run this well, and frankly, don’t want my child associating medical tests with having to attend school.

Ditto. If they did test and stay I would not opt out. But I’m opting out. If kid is actually ill I will test. Oh what is that you say — most kids have no symptoms?! Hmmm. Sounds like they are fine to go to school.

Previous poster--physician--again. I take Covid very seriously. We're super conservative--have never eaten inside restaurants, no air travel, got vaccinated back in December. just do not want DCPS involved and quarantining my kids based on false positives, etc.

Another Lee parent here. Super concerned that the Primary classrooms will end up virtual for a majority of the year.

The back to school zoom session the other evening was a good indicator that staff had zero sympathy. I saw a few parents asking about it, and the principal seemed rather dismissive in her answers.

Have not read the whole thread yet but I would love it if this is where we are headed. I think with delta, quarantines are inevitable. But if we can weather this wave and get cases down again, I think a frequent testing/limited quarantine plan offers the best balance of safety and IPL.
