My son went to a private K; we moved here from another state. He’s our first child, so just trying to gauge how good we seem to have it so far. ![]() |
It's very school dependent, covid has impacted enrollment at many of the schools in FCPS, and that's a great student:teacher ratio. |
Is it a title 1 school? That class size is not the norm at the non-title 1 schools. |
If there were 29 kids, they would stuff them into that small room. |
16 is not typical. My 3 kids have had 21-34 over the last decade or more. |
I've had kids in FCPS for 14 years--the lowest had 15 the highest 31, most commonly in the low to mid 20s. |
Goggle is telling me it is not a title 1 school. I guess I will be very thankful for now and expect it to increase if kids return from homeschooling once vaccines are available and this Delta wave passes. Thank you all! |
When they had 34, do they add a teacher’s assistant? Wow. |
We are at a language immersion school. First grade Gen Ed classes tend to be small while the language immersion class was full. Over the years, the ratios change. DS started with 31 kids in his class in first grade and is down to 23 in fourth. The Gen Ed classes had 16 kids in first grade and are around 20 kids in fourth. I would guess that his language immersion class will have fewer then 20 kids by sixth grade and the Gen Ed class will be in the mid 20’s.

I suspect that is exactly what is going to happen. Once the vaccine for ES kids is out and parents start to get it for their kids, the number of kids in classes is going to rise. |
Be grateful. My kids had 21-24 kids from K-3, and then 28+ from 4-6. This even was at a title I school. |
My child is a 1st grader at Lane. There are 28 kids in her class. |
None of these numbers are shocking. Past decades, back to the 1960's or 1970's would show numbers close to 30 -32, in some cases. |
My DS has 22 in his K class currently. Older DD had 26 in K a few years back and reachd the low 30s by later elementary. |
Do districts release their enrollment numbers from year to year? Were last year’s numbers significantly down? |
