Dave Sanford leaves DC United Academy

Sad to see him go, nice guy, well respected in the soccer community, interested to see who DC brings in

He took the director job at Gunston, didn't he?

Interesting move.

They brought in New England's academy's coach. Hope they turn the kids around. Not a very good scouting and coaching job the last few years. Yes they have some talented players but some poor players as well.

Gunston still exists? They left NPL for obscurity.

Once he sees what a train wreck it is he's going to leave after a year

Why the negativity?

NP. It’s an overstatement to say that DC United’s academy is a joke given that many great players and good coaches have cycled through there. The problem is that the DCU ownership doesn’t make the academy a priority. They underfund it and pay their coaches poorly, so there is constant turnover. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Dave Sanford, who I think did what he could with the resources he had.

Soon he'll start bringing in coaches and players from near by clubs.

Arlington, Alexandria, SYC, etc.

Yup. The ownership absolutely destroyed the academy with their massive budget cuts, and the idiotic decision to move it out to Loudon, which is simply impossible to get to for many.

Take Gunston, merge with LMVSC, combine with Alexandria.
