Vaccine Mandates for Teachers

Private employers and government agencies are mandating vaccines for their employers. Yet, teachers unions are opposed even though they will be working directly with the only population ineligible for the vaccine. Why is no one talking about this? How can we make sure teachers are mandated to be vaccinated.

My sister is a DCPS teacher and her principal said she estimates only 50% of the teachers are vaccinated. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Most teachers are liberal Democrats, so they should be the highest percentage vaccinated, anyway.

Then why are the unions opposing mandates? Liberal democrats get covid too. If any employers are mandating vaccines for their employees it should be health care and schools. Have any of the districts released plans? Has the VEA taken a position?

I agree, although, I’m an APS teacher, and I don’t know of one single teacher that isn’t vaxxed.

I remember on this very forum when APS teachers started getting vaxxed back in January and we were vilified then for "cutting the line" and now maybe some teachers aren't vaxxed and we'll be vilified for that too.

The point is we didn't get the vaccine at the exact right time.

I know one, she went back in person without complaint though. I can’t think of anyone at my current school who isn’t.

She's friends with her principal and it's based on casual conversation with employees/friends. I think most people have discussed Covid/vaccines with coworkers and bosses.
