I don’t know any teachers not vaccinated, including those of us that are Republican. Stop making this political. I would happily let parents or students know if they asked. Some have asked and I answer honestly. With students, they were more concerned if I had any side effects and I let them know mine were minimal. |
Yes, many of you cut the line, then still didn't go back in person (look at Yorktown). That was morally bankrupt. However, vaccines have been out for 6 months now so that issue is no longer relevant to this discussion. And teachers can get criticized like every other profession. Who has thinner skin - some APS teachers or Donald Trump? It's tough to tell. Since APS teachers advocated for schools to close, then they should have no problem with a vaccine mandate. Considering most transmission is from an adult source, if they actually cared about COVID, they'd be demanding their fellow coworkers be vaccinated. Anyone hear anything from the AEA or other teachers on AEM demanding one? |
Who made it political? Teachers AND STAFF need to be vaccinated. Why aren't the teacher's union calling for it? They were on top of calling for 14 days no new cases and a virtual start to school last year. But mandating the vaccine is a step too far? My teacher friends are mad there isn't a mandate. They've reported most teachers are vaxxed but not really sure about staff. |
Donald Trump is one individual. Teachers aren't a monolith. Hth |
Oh stfu we do whatever we want. Are you that desperate to become a communist country? ![]() |
No one is forcing adults to get vaccinated. There are job requirements and getting vaccinated when working with unvaxxed populations seems pretty important. There are other jobs out there if one does not want to be vaccinated. |
So the Delta variant supposedly presents a medical threat so dire that it could potentially limit schooling for the third year in a row. But it’s not serious enough to justify a vaccine requirement for teachers. |
FDA aims for full approval of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine by Labor Day: report - so HOPEFULLY once this happens, the mandates for various employers will be flowing like Niagara |
I thought Virginia didn't have teachers unions? |
There are associations which may or may not start collective bargaining in the future. There are not any unions. I’m okay if they mandate the vaccine for all staff. I’m vaccinated and think everyone should be u less there is a documented medical issue. Someone on page one brought up vaccine rates and liberal Democrats. That’s why I said people should stop making this political. - Republican teacher. |
I think every employer should require it. Don’t give a rat’s a&& at this point who likes it or not. |
For now….Dems working on it |
Hang yourself or go to North Korea then? lmfao |
Yup. Nothing substantiated that I see. |
What's b.s. in the anti-union claims here is that I've searched and found nothing on local teacher unions in the D.C. area, and certainly not in Northern Virginia, opposing mandatory vaccination. Maybe they eventually will, I have no idea, but they haven't commented on it as of now. It doesn't matter what a national union official says, or what a teacher's union in another state says...that's not relevant to our local schools. I support mandatory vaccination, and will be mad if local teacher unions publicly oppose it. But they haven't, and indeed I expect public school teachers already likely have among the highest vaccination rates in the nation. |
