Vaccine Mandates for Teachers

Northam press conference at 2pm today. I am expecting a state employee vaccine mandate.

Maybe they eventually will, I have no idea, but they haven't commented on it as of now. It doesn't matter what a national union official says, or what a teacher's union in another state says...that's not relevant to our local schools. I support mandatory vaccination, and will be mad if local teacher unions publicly oppose it. But they haven't, and indeed I expect public school teachers already likely have among the highest vaccination rates in the nation.

Why do you assume such idiocy? There are many more not vaccinated than inoculated with that experimental poison. Which is in trials until January 2023.

How hard do you want me to laugh when you start dying in the next 18-24 months guinea pig?

I respect your right to get CoVID. I do. But when it happens, can you not seek medical care? Take an emergency room bed? Expose health care workers who are already spread thin? Wear a mask and not spread to my unvaccinated elementary schoolers at the grocery store? Raise my insurance premiums, or have my tax dollars pay for your right to get sick? If you can do that, I say fine, you do you.

The point is we didn't get the vaccine at the exact right time.

Our bad, fam

yes fam, you’ll be vilified for insisting on prioritizing yourself for a vaccination then not getting vaccinated then insisting that it is not safe to open schools.

It's pathetic how much you hate people employed as teachers and equally stupid how much power you think they actually have in their profession.

This. Hate them, and in the same breath, can't WAIT to foist their kids off on them.

No problem requiring it for teachers and staff, just as long as it's also required for all students 12 and over without a independently verified medically-documented allergy to one of the small number of ingredients in this specific vaccine.

Agreed.

That’s sad, but true.

I agree with this as well. If they can require HPV vaccine for 7th graders in APS, they should require the COVID 19 vaccine as well.

The local groups will likely go the same as their national organization:

Head of Second-Largest Teachers Union Backs Vaccine Mandate

Fairfax has an AFT local, but I agree, I haven’t seen or heard anything locally.

The local teacher associations came out of the woodwork last year to call for virtual learning. They also were behind the 14 days no nee cases nonsense. They advocated for teachers to (rightly) get priority access to vaccines. But calling on the school districts to mandate vaccines among the workers!?! Crickets.

Mine has had lots of discussions but the general feeling is that until it’s out of emergency approval the potential legal challenges-it only takes 1 person and I have a colleague who tells anyone who will listen that Delta is a Biden-admin invention and the vaccines are harmful- make it a nonstarter at this point. Language is ready and waiting for the moment it gets full approval.

I’m actually surprised by that because an AEA leader has advocated for all staff to be vaccinated in the private educators group. Not sure when they’ll release a public statement
