Snow day

We are in Mclean. Our neighborhood is still not plowed. We are new here… so do some just never get plowed at all or will they eventually come?

You drove from Reston to Clifton to Burke to Annandale to Mt Vernon? I wish I had as much free time as you.

Lol, exactly..!
And to GreatFalls, Springfield, Alexandria, Fairfax, Centerville, Vienna, McLean, Chantilly too?? Dang!

Depends who will clear it. Is it a county road or is it private and handled by HOA?

It's not just about the roads. All of the busses have to be dug out and school lots and sidewalks cleared. I grew up here and the thing keeping schools closed is usually getting the busses ready and having clear bus stops

Yes, this. Plus a clear space for the kiss n ride lines to work and sidewalks for walkers.

That's why upthread I mentioned that when I drove by an ES it wasn't cleared out yet.

Our road is mostly ice, but most of the residents are transplants from snowy places like Chicago, upstate New York, and Michigan or icy places like Missouri and Kansas, so driving on these roads is no big deal.

For locals, southerners and folks from other countries, the roads are still impassable.

Hahaha. I’m from Michigan. No one can drive safely on ice. Snow? Sure, but not ice. The ES down the street is on a hill. I’ve watched plenty of cars and buses slide past even while moving at a crawl. Going up the hill is also challenging.

I don’t shy away from driving in winter, but one bus sliding in or through and intersection or onto a sidewalk with kids walking to school and you’ve got a week more of news!

I’m guessing 2 hour delay tomorrow

They also have engine warmers.

Even though entire neighborhoods aren’t cleared?

Are you on a private street? You might have to go through your HOA.

I was just thinking this as well. Travel germs have had extra days to be eradicated. BUT.... Now that we are looking at a possible third snow day after a 2 week break...no one will keep their kids home if they are sick, so everyone will fall ill within two weeks...

Does anyone have any insider intel they'd like to share? We've heard plenty of speculation.

Are the turn lanes on the main roads cleared?

I heard that was a major problem this morning. The snow plows "cleared" 1 (and maybe a 2nd lane), but in doing so pushed said snow/frozen slush into the left and right turn lanes (abd thus stacking traffic and making it tougher than it needed to be).
