I don't think they are going to bother with the fight that would be moving KP to Einstein. Einstein doesn't have the room and it's not worth the headache.

The reason to move KP to Einstein is that it is an opportunity to increase diversity without busing anyone too far. If they are serious about relieving capacity in the DCC AND increasing diversity, they need a multipronged approach. What they would do is switch out Woodlin to BCC and bring in KP. Moving KP to Einstein opens up space in Woodward/WJ for more low-income schools e.g. Viers Mill/Wheaton Woods/Sargeant Shriver. Net increase in diversity for both Einstein and BCC. Then move one or two Einstein feeders to Wheaton and some Wheaton feeders to Woodward/WJ. Will they do this? I don't know, it really depends on how much they are willing to anger people in order to achieve their stated goals.

Actually, if you moved a lower SES Einstein feeder to Woodward and replaced it with KP, you'd have *less* diversity in Einstein. OTES, Singer, Rock View are not low SES schools. They're not Luxmanor, but they're also not Veirs Mill. KP is overall wealthier than Woodlin.

IMO, the reason to move KP to Einstein is that Einstein is closer than WJ to much of the KP catchment area. Reduce the time kids are on buses.

Otes is very mixed income. It was or still is a focus school.

It is no longer a focus school.

Then, that's only happened in the past 2-3 years. Not surprising with housing prices.

Wait, what? Why would they announce that before Northwood construction even starts?

That's good news, so it will not impact most of us in HS now. I assume they would announce it as the construction will take longer than planned.

My kids used to attend OTES and the demographics of that school have trended whiter and wealthier since it became an immersion school. That area of Kensington is also one of the last close in places where an educated but not wealthy family can afford a SFH.

Or an uneducated but not wealthy family.

Is this official? I don't see anything on the Northwood or Woodward websites mentioning a delay.

Sure, it makes sense to bus those kids 2X further than now just to satisfy the jealousy and malice of W Karens.

There are very few uneducated people making enough money to afford a 550-700k SFH.

I think DCUM's habit of referring to "poor" as "low SES" must be confusing people. You don't pay for housing with socioeconomic status. You pay for housing with money.

Northwood and Blair are on the same road, 10 blocks apart.

Not that I'm defending the Northwood vs Blair difference (maybe they were thinking of Einstein from Takoma Park?), but it takes the Woodlin catchment about the same time to get to BCC as it does to Northwood -- some more, some less -- and less time to get to BCC than to currently-assigned and much more overcrowded Einstein (or anything else but likewise-overcrowded Blair), while BCC wouldn't require crossing 495.

Now this is an interesting nugget of information. Has this been announced by central office?

They said it will be in the superintendent’s recommended CIP budget on Tuesday so not yet. I actually appreciated they didn’t wait and were honest about it at open house.

Does this mean Northwood students will get to use the Woodward athletic facilities, etc., that were going to take the 2 years of Northwood occupation to construct for a year just because Northwood construction will take an extra year, or will that completion of Woodward also take the extra time, with the displaced Northwood students dealing with three years of ongoing construction during their occupation of the partially complete Woodward?
