Now this is an interesting nugget of information. Has this been announced by central office?

They said it will be in the superintendent’s recommended CIP budget on Tuesday so not yet. I actually appreciated they didn’t wait and were honest about it at open house.

So now they are saying that Woodward would hold Northwood for 24-25, 25-26, and 26-27, and then it would be Woodward for the first year for Fall 2027?

Sure, it makes sense to bus those kids 2X further than now just to satisfy the jealousy and malice of W Karens.

Northwood and Blair are on the same road, 10 blocks apart.

Blair's boundary is based on its original location in DTSS.

That's a non sequitur, and also not quite true.

Does this mean Northwood students will get to use the Woodward athletic facilities, etc., that were going to take the 2 years of Northwood occupation to construct for a year just because Northwood construction will take an extra year, or will that completion of Woodward also take the extra time, with the displaced Northwood students dealing with three years of ongoing construction during their occupation of the partially complete Woodward?

What did the say was the reason for the delay? Issues at the Woodward site, the Northwood site, the funding of either project, or something else?

Reposting from earlier in the thread:
When Blair moved from Wayne Ave. to Four Corners in 1998, its boundaries did not change.
However, when Northwood's reopening was phased in starting in 2004, Blair's boundaries did change. Elementary schools such as Forest Knolls, Highland View, and Sligo Creek, which had been zoned for Blair, were rezoned to Northwood, as were some schools from the Einstein and Kennedy clusters. So today's Blair boundary is not the same as it was in the '90s on Wayne Ave.

It's got to be something related to the Northwood Construction, not the Woodward site, if they're planning to stay at Woodward for an extra year.

Probably. But the Woodward project has two phases, Phase 1 to be done by 2024 so Northwood can move in, and Phase 2 by 2026 so Woodward can open as a new school. It could be something's up with the Phase 2 construction timeline.

Extending Northwood's use of the holding school for three years is really a terrible thing. The community wanted a holding school in the DCC but MCPS forced Woodward, which families were at least ok with because it would be new.

But how long are the kids not going to have athletic facilities or performing arts spaces...for a school that has a performing arts academy?

Plus Northwood is one of the poorer schools and transportation is an issue. They are flat out going to be eliminating many parents from being able to engage at all with their child's school for up to 75% of their high school career.

What other options were there that were less bad than Woodward?

There is no other good option as the school needs replaced. Other surrounding schools are overcrowded so they cannot move the kids to those schools. In DCC you have school choice so you can choose another school and hope you get in that would be closer. It's a very mixed income school.

There was an option discussed of an urban campus in DTSS or utilizing space on the Adventist campus in TkPk. Both would have required MCPS to spend more money, though, so Woodward was the best option.

A lot more money, I'm guessing.

This also sucks for WJ. It is so so overcrowded!
