What are you talking about? There is not rampant antisemitism at elite schools. More criticism of Israel perhaps, which is a function of their intellect and them being more politically involved. I do not see evidence of increased hate crimes or animus towards Jewish people at these schools. In fact, I would say there is more tolerance for Jewish people at these schools. I know for certain that the Southern schools are not more tolerant.

You're kidding right? Have you seen the incidents at Michigan and Wisconsin and Penn Harvard etc?

Which incidents at Penn and Harvard? Be specific.

Exactly, what incidents? And, to my point, I am sure there are as many incidents elsewhere. An incident does not make a student body anti Semitic.

Pretty simple, weather, more fun in general, kids are more conservative now than a generation or two ago.

+1 It is more a thing at their schools, than other schools.

Your College Bound Kid podcast just did an episode on this.

"Mark interviews Andy Borst, the VP of enrollment at the University of Georgia on the topic of, Why do college students go out of state and why are so many heading to southern universities."

+1

I know about some pro-palestinian protests at Michigan, but that isn't anti-Jew.
I know about one very isolated incident at Wisconsin that was handled very swiftly and effectively.

When this topic first came up, I spent some time looking up application numbers for northern and southern colleges. Back then, applications were up everywhere, but they were up substantially more for Southern universities. There are a few extreme examples, like Auburn, which has seen an increase in applications from 20,000 in 2019 to 55,000 in for fall 2024, but even schools that have always been competitive had bigger increases in the South vs. North (and even the Mid-west). I don't care to spend the time to do this again, but this was when test optional was new and before the recent downturn in apps at Harvard, so the numbers would be even more dramatic now.

That's fascinating. Where did you look up the application numbers, if you don't mind me asking? I'd love to see if the numbers really are more dramatic, as you suggest.

I haven't been able to corroborate this? Is there a link with some real data?

Claims presented without evidence can be dismissed without consideration.

Just google "common data set" for the particular school. Most go back several years.

Because they need vitamin D

If you look at the informal admit IG page by school, you will notice that this 'trend' of southern universities is not consistent across all high schools. (Of course, there are other students who do not post to IG.) BCC seems to have a larger number of students going to these type of universities. There is a HS culture affecting this as well
