Mask Recommendations

Any recommendations for masks for my kindergartener and first grader? They were in home last year and when they did wear a masks it was only for max three hours. I’m looking for masks that are comfortable to wear all day long. I’ve seen recommendations for soom masks but have no idea which one to get. Others have recommended happy masks and others the athleta masks. Would love to hear what worked for you!

Happy Masks- they are rated highly, have a built in filter and are easily breathable. Our kids played sports in them indoor and outdoor.

Thanks. How often do you wash them and how many did you buy?

My son prefers Jaanuu to Happy Mask and I’m glad because HM have to be hand washed. I wash them after each wear and he wears two during the school day.

Buy youth disposable ones. It will save money in the long run if they lose a few, it’s easy to send extras and they are more effective than cloth.

you wash them after every school day. It’s simple, you put it in a bowl of water with a squirt of soap for five minutes then hang to dry overnight. They say they last for about 60 wears and I would agree with that as they were than myself and noticed after many months of use it was a little harder to breathe through. We have a rotation of three of them for every member of our household.

Try a variety out this summer, each of my kids likes different masks. We have a combo of Athleta, Hanna Anderson, Old Navy and random ones we have picked up through sports and camps

I'm a NP but my DD was in 1st grade last year (she just turned 7). She only went into school 2 days a week. I bought 2 Happy Masks because I'd heard good things AND they worked really well with her glasses (no fogging). She wore one each day, and I did hand wash them at night. They dry super fast. I just ordered 3 more for her to wear to school 5 days a week this fall, I like them THAT MUCH. She can wear ONE mask ALL day with no issues. No rash, no wetness, not discomfort. A lot of the time she'd wear it the entire walk home (about a mile) because she had forgotten she was even wearing it.

I will add my DD is pretty responsible and doesn't lose things. I always had a few back up cotton masks (from Old Navy) in her backpack and she never even dipped into those. She would wear the ON ones on the playground last winter and they'd get gross and wet pretty quickly.

So I'd definitely recommend the Happy Masks, or at least trying one out for each kid to see if they like it. I also think wearing a disposable one may be a good idea too, if you think they'll need multiples a day. The cotton ones are good for quick trips.

Whatever is most comfortable. It's just hygiene theater at this point.

My kids end up losing so many - even when on the lanyards - that they use disposable KN95 ones now.

I'm putting my child in KN95 or KF94 masks next school year.

My brother, fully-vaccinated with Pfizer, got Covid-19, along with two of his friends, also fully-vaccinated. They were having an outdoor meal. Thankfully, their symptoms were mild. He urged me to ditch cloth masks, and use N95 masks instead. I bought 3-ply cloth masks for DD earlier on, but now, we are switching to disposable KN95 masks I found on Vida.com. I also bought the individually packed KN95 masks from GreenSupply for DD to bring to school to change. Theses KN95 masks are running out quickly.
