Baby Bjorn or Ergo Baby Carrier?

Anonymous
Does anyone have a recommendation between the Baby Bjorn or the Ergo? I can't decide which one to register for....
Thanks!

We went with the ergo b/c it seemed to distribute the baby's weight better for mom and dad and because I didn't like how the bjorn seemed to put all the baby's weight at their crotch.

Ergo baby can carry up to 40 lbs, I think Baby Bjorn can only hold up to 25 lbs. One of my friends was still using it on her 3 year old!

the bjorn is wonderful for little ones. they're notthat heavy so the position won't harm them.
the ergo is awesome for the older babies and it can be used even with toddlers if you manage to get a hold of them LOL

i love the ergo and have used it for two kids now. to use it with a new baby though you'd probably need to purchase the infant insert that is sold as an accessory. instead of buying the infant insert i spent the money instead on a baby k'tan carrier, which i used for my daughter when she was an infant and really liked. then at around 5 months i switched to the ergo.

i tried the bjorn with my first daughter but it killed my back! i find the ergo very comfortable. with the ergo a lot of the weight goes to the waist instead of the shoulders, and that was more comfortable for me.

most of my friends have tried the bjorn but eventually end up using the ergo and find it more comfy.

We used the Bjorn until 8 months and then the Ergo. I hate the Ergo for infants. It never really seemed safe to me even with the insert. Babies love to face out which the Bjorn does but the Ergo does not. Maybe you could register for the Ergo since you will use it longer and then buy a used Bjorn since it is shorter loved.

please follow up with the consumer reports info on the recent sling recalls. slings are not recommended for babies under 4 months in general. remember there is a chance of your baby suffocating so get the facts.

Ummm, neither the ERgo nor the Bjorn is a sling. I'd register for both. Bjorn is great for the early days. Ergo will be your workhorse. It's totally worth it if you have more than one kid too.

This is only relevant for "bag slings", if you google the name from the news and reports you will see the pics
As for the baby carrier in question, here's an alternative I am considering

you can get it from ebay for about $79

Another vote for getting both if you can. We stopped using the bjorn when DD was around 18 pounds, the Ergo is great now that DD is bigger. DD really loved the bjorn and being able to look around her, I hated to have to give it up!

There is a carrier called the Pikkolo which is a structured carrier like the Ergo but still allows the baby to face forward when younger like the Bjorn. Here is a link with info: http://www.theportablebaby.com/carrierfeatures.html

The Ergo is great! The infant insert might be really hot if your baby is due this summer though. I'd suggest instead of getting the insert, get a Moby wrap for when the baby is younger.

We have been using a moby and the bjorn, and just recently bought a used ergo. The moby is great, but I haven't used it since fall because I couldn't figure out how to work it with jackets. I'll probably start using it again now that it's warming up. The Bjorn is good, but really uncomfortable after a while - my kid's about 6 months and 17 pounds now. We have an older model, and it seems to put all the weight right at the shoulders.

I really wish we got an ergo sooner, but they are pretty expensive!

The ergo is much better for your back. But if I was doing it over again I'd get this: http://www.catbirdbaby.com/pikkolo-info/

My baby hates anything that faces her in - you can just never tell what they will like or dislike until they are here so we held off on stuff like that until we knew we'd use it.

Id recommend both. What is nice about the bjorn is that the infant/toddler can face out, not w/ ergo.

Maybe you can get one used for 1/2 the price. Check some consignment stores or craigslist.

I saw on the baby steals website that they were selling ergo for like 45% off (just 2 styles)... www.babysteals.com
