Expectant and Postpartum Moms
| Borrow a Bjorn for when baby is small--first several months, then get an Ergo. |
| Get the infantino that looks like the bjorn. its $40. then register for an ergo. When they're little i just could never get the baby or me comfortable in the ergo, but as they get heavier you're really going to want an ergo. |
| Some of the Infantino's are being recalled now, I would doublecheck the model before buying |
The slings are being recalled, not the carriers. Slings of multiple brands are being recalled. |
|
I want to echo that the issue is NOT slings in general but the bag/duffle type of sling. You want to keep your baby upright in a position you would naturally carry them in were they not in a carrier.
I teach babywearing and would buy the Ergo. |
| is it ok that the baby's legs are so far spread apart in the ergo? |
It is actually better (more natural) than when the legs are hanging down and most of the pressure is on the baby's crotch. |
|
Right -- it is better (and more comfortable) for them to be seated.
Now, your newborn wouldn't fit legs out in the Ergo. You'd froggy legs inside and then closer to 6 months be legs out. You can also have one leg in one leg out during a transition period if necessary. |
| DD was tiny (under 17 lbs at a year), but still the Bjorn hurt my back and shoulders when she was about 6 mos (maybe I'm just a wimp). The Ergo is fantastic. Only downside is that baby can't face out. I hiked for an hour with DD on my back 2 summers ago, and she snoozed the whole time. There's a nice cover that you can use to hold her head in place and keep the sun off her (although I did make DH check on her back there every 90 seconds!). |

there's nothing wrong with the bjorn position since the baby is not heavy enough to be uncomfortable in that position.
I'm 5ft tall and used it until both children were abt 6mo old. |

There's some argument that the hanging position isn't so good for their spine development, but that really wasn't my main reasoning. Sitting rather than hanging is more comfortable for baby and the weight being at mom's hips rather than hanging from shoulders is more comfortable for mom.
The Ergo also retains value much more so than the Bjorn, if that matters to you. |
| not if your baby prefers to face out... |
| I used both with DS - I loved the Bjorn until he was about 8/9 months old, when he just got too heavy and it started to hurt my shoulders. Got the ERGO which was great as far as distributing the weight on me, but DS didn't really like that he couldn't face out. |
| I have an Ergo that I plan on using for new baby after she is several months old, but I am considering getting the Pikkolo for when she is a newborn. I like that I can use it when she is first born withuot buying a separate insert and also that she can face out when she is bigger... anyone have any experience with the Pikkolo? |
| anyone have experience with the cybex 2 go baby carrier? I saw an advertisement and it is sold on amazon & giggle. Has 5 carrying positions- newborn-toddler, newborn, face in, face out, hip, back. I'm very curious but can't find any reviews. cybex-online.com. |
