I get it, McDonalds food is not healthy but how do you explain the 80+ year olds who eat there?

Every single morning McDonalds is filled with 80 and 90 year old seniors who have been eating there for decades.

If McDonalds food is not very healthy for you, shouldn't most of those elderly seniors be dead by now?

There is nothing bad in a McMuffin and coffee. IME the elderly tend to be the breakfast crowd.

The same way you explain the 80 year olds who smoke. Correlation is not causation.

+1

There was also a guy in that Supersize Me McDonalds expose that went every day and ate a Big Mac (I think that is what it was?). No fries etc. He was older and not overweight I don’t think.

My grandparents use to go there as a treat (for them, it was) and split a meal. They still thought the portions were ridiculously large. Many older folks do not eat a huge amount.

I think it may also be more of a social thing (which isn’t bad)! Often over coffee (way cheaper than coffee shops) and many elderly are on a limited income or very frugal.

The breakfast is really convenient. In and out of there in less than 5 minutes and I buy my family a full breakfast.

A lot of them are probably just having coffee (and it is probably a lot fewer calories and sugar than many young people consume in their Starbucks drinks)

Just saying

Everything in moderation.

A basic hamburger there (like the one in a happy meal) isn’t an unhealthy meal. It is a bun with 100% beef patty and is 250 calories. I get unsweetened ice tea and a hamburger for lunch.

+1. My 82yo father eats lunch there almost every day. He usually gets a hamburger.

In addition to what's already been mentioned, it could just be an occasional thing for them.

Occasional? They are there every single day even during covid.

Drinking a coffee and eating an egg mcmuffin every day will not kill you. In fact, it's healthy and good for seniors to get up every morning and get out and about by going to McDonalds. Even better if they're meeting up in a group and socialising like the picture above!

They're having more fun than I am, as I sit here alone eating oat bran and an apple. I'm 37.

+1 this is my airport breakfast and I fly 2-4 times a week in the morning.

My grandparents eat fast food with regularity, but it’s rare that they finish their sandwich or order their own fry. Much more typical for them to split a meal or to find half a sandwich “for tomorrow” in the fridge.
