I get it, McDonalds food is not healthy but how do you explain the 80+ year olds who eat there?

When I worked at McDonald's (30ish years ago) we had a bunch of regulars that came in every morning and sat in groups to socialize. It was typically at breakfast time. Usually they would order coffee and sometimes a breakfast sandwich.

What? Where are these 80-year-olds every day at Mcdonald's? Most I know go to Village Inn or IHOP in the DMV. Yep, every single day. I think Mc is better as in a restaurant they get huge portions.
But I tell you honestly, I wish my mom would do this or something similar. And my best friend DH (they are older than me, so he is retired and does nothing while she works all day long). Instead, her DH is depressed and having terrible thoughts!
If the option is this or sitting, mopping all day long, you are better off doing this.
Every doc on the blue zones says friends and family and living with them and being with them is maybe more important than the food they eat.

Most elderly people are underweight, not overweight. Better than the tea and toast diet.

They haven’t been doing it for decades OP. They’ve been doing it since retirement and being on a fixed income, as a way to get out of the house and see friends.

Because eating fast food does not equal certain death. Duh.

I love McDonalds. And yes, I take my kids too. If you track your calories, you can eat it and still lose weight.

Well, if they’re not at McDonald’s, they’re at Bob Evans or Roy Rogers or what have you, and good for them. Being social, seeing friends, and having someone to notice if you don’t show up for your every-Tuesday-at-McDonald’s standing breakfast is part of being healthy.

Having an egg McMuffin and coffee once or twice a week with friends and having that social time is better than eating Grape Nuts by yourself at home every day. Even interacting with the McDonald’s staff members and being in public and smiling at other people without actually talking to them is better than sitting home alone.

They don't have demands put on them. Its a predictable gathering place. They get a cheap small breakfast and they can hang out and talk. People can come and go as they please.

If they went to a traditional sit down restaurant/fast casual, they are expected to get a larger meal, have everyone order and sit down at roughly the same time and only take up a seat/table for 45 min to an hour.

Occasional? They are there every single day even during covid.

That is AWESOME! I love it. Thanks for the pic, PP. It made my day!

The benefits of having friends and socializing would offset any damage done by eating their food.

It is possible to cobble together decent options at this restaurant.

i take some of the bun off to further reduce calories.

If they've reached 80+ and eat regularly at McDs, I doubt eating there is going to hasten their deaths. At that age, social networks are more important than eating healthy.
