How many full (not on your knees) push-ups can you do in succession? Age? Female or male?
How long can you hold an elbow plank (without cheating)? |
|
37F. I can do about 40 push-ups in succession- which I would consider quite good. But I incorporate push-ups into my workouts regularly.
Plank- I don’t know. I don’t hold planks for longer than whatever workout video I’m doing tells me to. But they don’t seem particularly challenging and I don’t ever need to break early. |

At 40F 40 Push-ups
53F I’m lucky if I can do 10. I have to do them against the wall or a table due to age/injuries/basic issues. |
| 45 push-ups. Male, 46 |
|
39 female. 35-40 push ups. Can hold a plank for 4+ min.
But I do these exercises regularly in my normal routine and had to work up to it. |
| I practice Ashtanga so do about 60 chaturangas (push ups) per session. They're not in succession, but as part of vinyasas they do add up (especially when you factor in all of the other asanas). |
If I took breaks between them I could do 60 pushups in an hour or 90 minutes too. |
|
42 F. I’ve been doing a push up progression program because it’s always been a weak area for me. I’m up to doing about 13-15 before I have to take a break.
In another month or so I’ll switch to working on tricep pushups. Those are do much harder for me. |
| 100 push ups. Male, 57 |
| I can hold a plank for 3 minutes. I never do "real" push-ups so I probably cant do many. 49F. |
| 36 year old woman. Im at 48 right now. Gets really hard after that. Been working on getting to 50. |
|
44 and I can do 2. I have never been good at pushups although I do lift heavy weights.
What push-up progression program do people recommend? |
|
Woman, 43, none.
I always do them from me knees. I do strength training/HIIT but I still can’t do full push ups. I can hold a plank for 90 seconds |
|
Woman, age 37, maybe 7 on toes, and I’m totally happy with that. My only fitness goals are to be strong enough to not have joint pain and to be able to do cardio for an hour a day to stave off my anxiety. No need to bother with push-ups.
But I am impressed with people who can do lots of them! Nice job, PPs! |
You should. Push-ups are the most underrated exercise. They strengthen your back, core, and arms; will help prevent changes to posture as you age |
