Freeloading swim team parents suck

When the team says prior to registration that volunteering is mandatory to make swim team work, they don’t mean everyone but YOU.

You suck and I judge you. Don’t give excuses, no one forced you to register your kid.

That’s all.

So drop the kid.

Lol Amen- I’ve timed every single meet thus season bc of lack of volunteers!

Our team rep assigns each family a job every meet. Issue solved.

Lol another parent and I were saying the same thing last week. Although to be fair, my kid usually qualifies for 1-2 A meet events, but because I have volunteered for all the B meets I haven’t for the A meets, so those parents could think I suck because they don’t know I time all the B meets.

Here’s an idea: explain what all of the jobs are so people know what they’re signing up for/are willing to try something new. Like another PP, I’ve volunteered at meets my kid didn’t swim in, so don’t assume everyone you see sitting hasn’t put in work to support the team.

^^ Even so, if they need help and tour kid is swimming, you should help. The fact that you volunteer at some meets and not others isn’t relay helpful when they need volunteers.

Hmm. No one ever told me I was supposed to volunteer at meets. I read all the emails and stay with my daughter through meets and talk to the coaches at the meets and attend some practices. What am I missing?

It depends on the team size. With larger teams, its not so much an issue but on smaller teams it is. They need so many positions filled or the meet cannot be held.

Our pool has a points system which essentially is volunteering at 5 meets a season. I shouldn’t have to volunteer at 10 meets a season because my kid does both A and B meets. There are more than enough swimmers at our pool that if parents aren’t slackers the shifts will be covered. Although I will say, knowing now that my kid will qualify for A meets, I would definitely rather volunteer at those than all the B meets I signed up for this season!

I’ve never heard of a summer swim team that didn’t require parent volunteering ???

When you are at the meets, who is doing the timing? Who is working at the concessions? Just curious.

Rep wouldn’t have to do this (on top of everything else they do!) if parents just stepped up as expected.

Ah yes! The martyr volunteers - “it will all fall apart without me!”
hint: it won’t, they find a way, and if they can’t, we’ll they forfeit. It’s one summer swim meet not the end of the world
