Family vacation planned with ILs and they aren’t vaxxed

Planned a trip at end of July with the ILs and I asked DH if they were all vaxxed… and just found out that two teens and 1 adult are not. All are in red states and the adult and 1 teen are MAGA nuts. I have a younger kid not eligible. I am pissed. I guess I have to make my kid wear a mask at all times with them right? (We are renting apartments in CO at a resort.) It’s a celebration trip for the grandparents and I know DH won’t pull out. Suggestions? Ideas?

OP here… also there are no other reasons not to be vaxxed - no health reasons.

Chances are you will encounter lots of people in the airport, on the plane, and at the resort who aren’t vaxxed. If you are vaxxed, just take the same precautions you would usually take.

No hugs, no handshakes, social distancing, purell, etc.

I guess it is their choice.

But if you want to protect your kids, stay back. If not, yes masks, and I’d also keep all the windows open. No eating together inside.

Her child isn’t eligible to be vaxxed yet. Your ILs suck OP. I’d send DH without me and my child.

i honestly would not go. Let your DH go without you. I would die on this hill.

My sil and bill aren't vaxxed. I won't be seeing them this holiday season.

OP here… yes, I said that. 3 of the 4 of us are vaxxed. The 4th is not eligible, and has very mild asthma.

I am thinking of pulling out and just sending DH. I get that there is exposure in airports, planes, etc. but now I would have to have my kid in a mask at all times with the family. Two of them are in a state where the Delta variant is rampant.

At the very least you and the unvaxxed kid should stay home. It’s not a great idea for an unvaxxed kid with asthma to be flying several hours anyway, regardless of whether the relatives are all vaxxed.

I have unvaxxed in-laws. I refuse to hang out with them but unfortunately my husband still does.

Well, wouldn’t they have needed to be masked at the airport, on the plane, walking the hallways, etc? You will encounter unvaxxed people everywhere.

We’re in DE at the beach, and nobody is masked anywhere. DE residents aren’t big on the vax, and most staff are locals.

OP here… my kid has to be masked for day camps this summer, and I accept that.
