Family vacation planned with ILs and they aren’t vaxxed

I would cancel, then then I wouldn’t have agreed to let my unvax kid on a plane.

Shouldn't all the unvaccinated family members be in masks at all times, too? Your DH needs to confirm with them that they will be in masks in public on vacation and any time they are near your child.

All are in red states and the adult and 1 teen are MAGA nuts. I have a younger kid not eligible. I am pissed. I guess I have to make my kid wear a mask at all times with them right? (We are renting apartments in CO at a resort.) It’s a celebration trip for the grandparents and I know DH won’t pull out. Suggestions? Ideas?

are you and your family vaccinated? then what's the issue here. what's the point of getting vaccinated....

Didn’t you read? Her child isn’t vaccinated.

If they’re MAGA nuts they’re never going to agree to a muzzle.

OP here… yes, I said that. 3 of the 4 of us are vaxxed. The 4th is not eligible, and has very mild asthma.

I am thinking of pulling out and just sending DH. I get that there is exposure in airports, planes, etc. but now I would have to have my kid in a mask at all times with the family. Two of them are in a state where the Delta variant is rampant.

Other than when at home your kid should be masked at all times anyway, so they should be used to it and understand why they need too.

Ridiculous. No one is making their kids wear masks outside.

OP—you said you’re renting apartments. Are you all sharing the apartments across families, or is it just your immediate family in the apartment.

If it’s the former, then I’d stay home with unvaxxed kid. It’s one thing to go to camp all day or go to an event or move through an airport or flight with a mask. It’s another thing to have to wear it in your own living space and share meals. It’s those family situations where everyone is close and indoors and unmasked where the virus spread.

Ops child has asthma and is at higher risk and if she's so concerned about this scenario she should be concerned in all scenarios.

Do you have kids ? Why wouldn’t you worry about their exposure?

NP and it would not bother me either. My kids see their unvaccinated cousins and unvaccinated friends. The kids are too young to be vaccinated but all of us are okay letting them hang out together and no one is wearing masks now. This isn’t different. Numbers are low. Don’t go if you feel comfortable but you are more likely to come across a lot more unvaccinated people without masks anywhere you go at this point.

Yes you’re going to encounter lots of unvaccinated people but are you sharing a room with them are you staying for days in an apartment with them are you sharing multiple meals using the same bathrooms, kitchen, etc. coming across somebody for 15 seconds or two hours at the airport or a restaurant is not the damn same thing as spending an entire vacation with someone.

Then OP shouldn’t go. I said it wouldn’t bother me because cases are so low right now. Obviously this bothers OP. It’s not anything to stress about. Cancel the trip. Personally, I think OP is more bothered because she has different political views than the relatives. She’s the one that brought that up in addition to the masks. I think she’s looking for an excuse to cancel and Covid is an easy out. Also fine, but be honest.

You are an idiot for taking your kids with Maggots.

You know this won't happen with people who are still unvaxxed for no good reason.

If possible, I would cancel. If not, mask and skip as many meals with them as possible. I would wear masks.

+1. Especially since her inlaws are fine with them not going if they don't feel safe. For people like op it's about control.

My sil and bill aren't vaxxed. I won't be seeing them this holiday season.

Same. My kids and I would stay home. I'd make DH quarantine and get a negative Covid test when he came home. A friend of mine got vac'd in March, went to visit family in Georgia in May and he got Covid.

I would not go. Send DH and make him take Binax now test when he gets home.

NW CO is actually seeing a pretty big spike in cases now. If you are going to a higher elevation, it can aggravate mild asthma. If your child does catch COVID from the Maggots, his breathing is already diminished. Plus how do you get back? You can’t take your COVID positive kid on a plane. Are you comfortable seeing a new pediatrician and does your insurance have good out of network coverage? Do you have enough vacation time and funds to extend your stay?
