Annoying vegan sibling

Anonymous
Why do some people seem to become such narcissists about their eating? Sibling turned vegan which is fine, but has to advertise it all the time, post drama about it on FB, and complain when there is "nothing she can eat" at catered family gatherings (that have vegetarian options). It's like a made-up disability concocted around food hat people then seek attention for.

Vegan and vegetarian are different. Make her a salad.

I am happy to cook for anyone, but some people use their dietary choices as a power grab. Everybody in my family has a special diet, but only 1 person is difficult about it.

Ignore them. They can bring something to eat. Otherwise it’s not your problem.

This is what I mean. Eat what you want, but do we all have to hear about it?

I always make one thing that is just a plant-based product with nothing on it -- for the inevitable guest who won't eat glutendairymeatnitratescarbs or whatever. If they ask if its organic. Yea, sure, it's carbon based.

I had a friend who came for Thanksgiving and ate a plate of steamed broccoli. Brava! More turkey and stuffing for me.

We need more cowbell for this post...

The reverse power move would be to cook the item, but coot it in some bacon fat. but don't say a word. Smile when they eat it.

Or get some Vegemite and toast...

I’m vegan. I know many of us are annoying, but I’m kind of horrified at the suggestions to serve nothing but broccoli or to cook things in bacon. I have had a couple friends who get extremely sick from eating meat, and adding things to people’s food is extremely unethical. How would you feel if someone intentionally fed you a food you found revolting without your consent? What if it was something you were allergic to and they wanted to prove a point that you were just being dramatic?

Many vegans get excited when they first start, as do many people who starts other diets, such as paleo, keto, weight watchers, or even just calorie restriction. Many have also struggled with lifelong disordered eating and need support, not criticism. Plus most vegans get into the diet for animal welfare reasons, which is a cause many are passionate about.

And often times there really isn’t anything for us to eat. Vegetarian is not vegan, so something with cheese or eggs doesn’t really help me. Most of the time at social gatherings, I’ll have nothing to eat but some vegetables, which is maybe 100 calories and not enough for fill me up. And equally as annoying are the people who mock me or try to cajole me into eating meat.

Can’t you just ignore the FB posts, like all of us have to do with every annoying political FB post we see? Can you offer sibling support, too? It’s not that hard to pick up a pack of vegan burgers and some vegan cheese for a cookout.

Every vegan and vegetarian is annoying, well that I met! You make them a ton of healthy veggies and they eat the potatoes. My niece was vegan for a while. We were all lectured about how Texas Road House uses animal fat or butter on their baked potatoes so she can't even get that! A couple of months later, she decided that being vegan was too hard and she is back to being vegetarian, but no eggs, other than in baked goods. And McD french fries are ok, cause why not, and do they really use beef fat on them?
She is obese and can't figure out why. Maybe ordering butter paneer and butter garlic naan non-stop has something to do with it?

I have no dietary restrictions, but if you are getting an event catered why not have food for your known vegans? It's usually cheaper and you aren't preparing it.

When you make a choice not to eat most things don’t complain to others that there’s nothing for you to eat.

I really don’t get how this is a problem. Just because someone doesn’t eat meat, doesn’t mean they want to eat nothing but vegetables. Veggies alone aren’t very satisfying. Potatoes are delicious and vegan. What’s wrong with them having some potatoes?
