How Much Do You Pay Baby Sitter?

Anonymous
What's the going rate for baby sitters? DD is 15 yrs old and is watching an 8 and 12 yr old. Great kids so no problems, went to the pool, walked the dogs, ordered pizza & watched movies at home. Didn't help with any homework, cook or clean anything. Thanks!

I have a 14 year old watch my 3 and 5 year old. She asked for $8, but we pay her $10/hour.

I'd want my daughter to make at least $13-$15/hour.

DD is almost 16 and makes $15 for one child and $20 for two or more.

$20. Where do you all live that a teen will accept $13?

Does she have any experience? That is a factor. Also she is not doing cooking or cleaning or dealing with potty training, etc. which is something I pay $20/hour for. So I would go lower.

Hourly...we pay that hourly. Usually 16yo+ sitter.

She doesn't have any formal baby sitting experience, but knows how to entertain and take care of kids. She has CPR and first aid training. I feel like $20 an hour is on the high side, especially as I said she's not cooking cleaning or as PP noted, chaning diapers. But, a friend of hers who is also 15yr old made $25/hr for 8 hours on Monday for a similiar gig. That sounds crazy to me so I want to check in to find out what other DMV parents pay.

Ours charge $20 with no cooking, cleaning, or diapers.

$15 an hour to watch both kids for a few hours. If it’s on a regular basis or for a lot of hours you may want to have a lower rate to encourage your child to be the ‘go to’ babysitter.

$13 is a very fair wage for a sitter under 16. I would pay $15 for older teens. I would pay $20 for a young adult. It’s not brain surgery and it’s not taxing work.

$20/hour for college students or other adults
