Starting a new job in the Research Triangle area and will need an after school helper to pick kid up from school, make sure kid does homework before dinner, and take to after school activities. Would like for this person to make dinner for the week and also do kid laundry, grocery shop when needed, and occasional errands. Will have a separate house cleaner. How much to offer and by the hour or by the week? |
$22 an hour. |
Wow! that is a lot. Is there a local NC group to ask? We paid $30/hr. here for pt dependable after-school care and did not include any of the following--

OP. I guess I am in for a rude awakening bc this doesn’t seem like a lot to me. It just seems like a job. It’s what SAHMs without help do. |
But babysitters don't drive kids places. And nannies don't make dinner for the family or grocery shop. |
Since when? These are normal expectations (maybe not the dinners but driving and grocery shopping seem fine). |
Nope. Nannies do not cook dinner for the family or grocery shop. They will cook dinner for the KIDS. Not the parents. |
OP what were you hoping to pay? |
You need Alice. Good luck finding her! |
Just finding someone reliable for afterschool pick up is a feat, OP. |
Honest to God, OP, I couldn’t tell you. We have a personal chef who comes once a week who shops for and prepared five family style meals for us for $500 a week and a full time, educated nanny who does the rest at $27 an hour excluding parents laundry.
I can’t begin to imagine what one person would cost. |
SAHMs have 16 hours to accomplish it in their own homes. Not comparable to outsourced help. |
If I were you, I would look for a full time person, with the understanding that he/she is doing the extra (errands, cooking, laundry) when your child/children are in school. But that way you have someone full time for all of the days that school is closed fall/winter/spring break, all those teacher service days, summer, etc.. |
+1. Our nanny shifted hours to 12 to 7 and became a house manager when not with the kids - but no cooking for parents! There are so many great meal services out there like Freshly that asking the nanny to cook is silly. |
OP: should I instead look for an au pair for this job? |
