Wow Christian's (ECNL guy) first 2 questions were.

1. Homegrown players
2. College pathways to pro

He knows his lane + is trying to work with US Soccer

It's out and informative. If you think ECNL and US Soccer are at odds, you would be wrong. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with, I believe with the World Cup coming to town in '26 the US could see a big shift in soccer, which seems necessary, especially after following this thread.

Yes, the World Cup. In which all those national teams are first formed by…..Birth Year.

Which only matters for the 0.001% of youth players who have a chance of making the national team.

After their birth year stunt, I wouldn’t take too much into what they say.

MLS runs USSF, not the other way around 😉

Birth year stunt? Are you claiming it was a failed attempt to move to SY?

How about we wait until 26/27. Landscape will be a lot different in 2 years.

ECNL is going to jump & start SY in 25/26. The whole point is to stop kids from being trapped so they aren't going to wait.

lol. I doubt it. Clubs care too much about winning that they won’t put their teams at risk by doing this earky

That would be the absolute best move but they waited too long. Certain markets have already formed teams for 25/26

If you want to maximize the amount of money earned clubs need both girls AND boys teams involved in top leagues.

GA and ECNL girls are the same thing. ECNL has a few more top clubs, but the leagues themselves are roughly the same.

MLSN and ECNL boys are not the same MLSN is the top tier and ECNL is the 2nd tier. Basically with boys clubs make A LOT more money with MLSN than ECNL.

This is why MLSN partnering with GA is such a big deal. If clubs want MLSN they need to put their girls in GA. If clubs want to leave GA they'll get booted from MLSN.

Make sense now? It used to be that MLSN and GA ignored each other and ECNL would leverage ECNL girls + force clubs into ECNL boys. Now shoe is on the other foot and MLSN + GA are doing the same thing to ECNL clubs.

This is why you're not seeing any movement. The big leagues are playing chicken. But soon there will likely be a large block the goes to MLSN and GA at the same time. This is because clubs make more money with MLSN and GA

If clubs prioritize boys over girls and leave ECNL to goto MLSN/GA they will lose players big time. Many ECNL clubs are not run with good ethics and the only thing holding them together is ECNL patch on the uniform. Even some solid clubs will lose quality players if local ECNL teams are around.

It’s going to be interesting on what is better for clubs bottom line and how this all shakes out.

But my daughters club is GA/MLSN and is being offered ECNL but has to be full membership which our club board is considering. Boys side isn’t a strong MLSN club but does well enough.

Like youth soccer, what you write here seems full of contradictions. If ECNL clubs aren't ethical why would your club want anything to do with them, especially if there was another higher level program? If your club does well enough in MLSN, why even consider the switch?

Lots of friends who have had kids in my local area play ECNL girls and complain about their directors essentially acting like used care salesman, poor communication, low quality coaching.

I’m not saying this is true for all ECNL clubs but if specific clubs lost ECNL they would see a max exodus of girl players. Families are there for the patch not the club.

Nobody is prioritizing boys over girls.

Clubs are prioritizing 4-5 teams per age group if they have MLSN vs 1 maybe 2 teams per age group if they have ECNL boys.

Girl dads aren't able to comprehend why boys choose MLSN over ECNL boys. This is because Acadamies, contracts, $$$, kickbacks for developing players, etc doesn't exist for girls. Girl dads think boys are like girls when they're very different. With boys there are very strong rationale for picking MLSN over ECNL and it starts at a young age. Which translates to more $$$ for clubs that have MLSN.

If you haven't noticed MLSN is implementing MLSN2. Also GA is implementing GA2. They're doing this to give clubs with existing ECNL + ECRL teams a way to switch over to MLSN and GA without breaking up any of their teams. This keep clubs from losing any $$$ when switching over.

To the people that don't understand that from a league level ECNL and GA are almost exactly the same from a league prespective. Take your ECNL hat off and literally look at the different events the different leagues host. They're almost identical. Trust me your crappy club that losses all the time in ECNL will have the same results in GA once you start playing the big national level clubs.

I think there is some level of disconnect between boy and girls when considering platforms. But ECNL and GA are not even close as far as overall player skill and team talent. When you compare top
To bottom. Which shows boy dads have a large disconnect as well.

Is a MLSN/GA club went full ECNL you have to consider what percentage of players would you lose on the boys side that you wouldn’t be able to replace.

Yes a boys club would lose some players but could they still recruit other players to replace them which would keep their bottom line stable. As you would see a large growth model on the girls side.

Will be interesting to see what happens.

In 2 months, you will see GA lose more top clubs to ECNL than ECNL lose a couple of mediocre clubs to GA. ECNL college recruiting will jump to 90% once they switch to SY.

The news will come out in 3 weeks. I bet the parents did not pay yet. We are all waiting for the ECNL release to plan the next move.

What proof do you have of any clubs leaving GA.

The rest of GA is either fully aligned with the GA/MLSN alliance or Top GA clubs already have 2 teams in GA.

The only clubs that would make sense to leave at this point are the ones that have boys in ECNL.

SD Surf doing tryouts this week for 2011-2016. As most of us know, tryouts are usually just a formality. 6 months to reconfigure teams if a change is made, shouldn't be an issue.
