| I think high rise pants look great on many people. However, something about where the top lands on my abdomen is so uncomfortable and will give me a stomach ache. And if I have any amount of bloat, forget it. I do not wear clothing too small. I am thin but with a pretty straight torso and narrow hips, so maybe it’s the lack of tiny waist relative to my jean size? I prefer low to mid rise short and jeans for comfort. I see so many cute straight legged jeans but most have super high rise. Anyone else have this dilemma? |
| Yes I can but I'm tall and skinny. The waistband is a smidge loose on me. |
|
I have a round fat mound sitting on my lower belly, so to hide it I need to either wear super high rise pants, or very low rise pants (with long loose tops). The worst is mid-rise, because it sits right where the bulge is biggest
I love to accentuate my natural waist, which is quite slim actually. So I look for super high rise pants with nice belts, or if I'm wearing low-rise, a top that has a high defined waist. Oh, and high-rise bikini bottoms. Those that are also high leg. Very nice. |
| Yes. But Have very little belly fat and and hourglass shape. They fit very well |
| Yes but I am the opposite shape - high hip to waist ratio (normally - I'm pregnant right now so not so much!). I love high waisted pants because they accentuate my narrowest point, my waist, and the long line helps my hips look curvy and proportional. They also make everyone's legs look good. I wore low-waisted jeans back in the early aughts and they looked good because I was young and thin, but they don't actually flatter my body type. If you're slender all the way down, you would probably look great in a semi-slouchy modern style like a boyfriend jean. |
| I have more of a ruler body type and I hate the way I look in them. I think they look great on lots of women but they somehow accentuate my lack of curves. Maybe I just haven’t tried the right pair, I love the style. |

I generally find high waisted pants more comfortable because they sit on my true waist instead of digging into my hips. The downside is that they tend to accentuate my tummy, but I've honestly made peace with my tummy, especially since having a baby -- I just do not care about having a flat stomach anymore.
High waisted pants also tend to lift my butt a bit, and high waisted jeans definitely make my butt look better than other styles. Plus I like being able to tuck shirts into high waisted pants and have my waist emphasized. I hated the low rise trend, and it was particularly miserable in work clothes. Everyone looked so dumb tucking blouses and shirts into pants that only came midway up the hip. It tends to make you look blocky and shapeless. I know there are work tops that are designed to be worn untucked, but these usually look a little sloppy to me and are particularly unappealing under a suit jacket. When I used to have to go to court regularly, I wound up getting everything tailored to sit up on my waist because otherwise everything was cut too low. Also so uncomfortable when you have to sit and stand repeatedly and the lower rise means you're always adjusting the waist band. High rise is so much better. |
I think you haven't tried the right pair. I think high rise pants can give a straight up and down body more curves. Maybe look for something with a wider leg -- it will cinch your waist and then provide some volume below, giving the illusion of an hourglass figure. Or try a full skirt with a high waist. It's actually a classic fashion shape (the "New Look" that was popularized by Dior in the 50s) specifically because it emphasizes the thinnest part of the waist but adds volume above and below. |
| Spin-off question with the high rise pant: What kind of tops? Half tuck to show off the high waist? I guess we should also clarify high waisted jeans vs high waisted linen pants that fit much looser on the body. |
| No. I have very large breasts and a short torso. While my stomach is flat and my hips are wide and it would create a nice hourglass look, the ratio of boobs to torso just makes it look so strange. I do like the comfort of them and have a few pair that I wear with shirts over the waist, but there are a couple of styles that I can't wear with them. |
Are you…. Trying to say you’re pregnant? What a weird post. |
This is OP. This is how I look/feel as well. I am tall and slim but with not much waist definition as my hips are so narrow. |
This is OP. I do love the look of looser jeans but haven’t found the perfect pair! |
