I feel like the distance between GA and ECNL is more than the distance between GA and ECRL right now and in a downward trend……..

GA teams would not turn down the opportunity to join ECNL which should tell you everything you need to know about which is the better platform.

But GA definitely has some great teams and many who are under rated and could easily compete in ECNL. My daughters GA ranked 3rd in are GA league just beat a local ECNL squad ranked number 1 in their league currently.

ECNL and its some of its legacy clubs / honchos have burned a lot of bridges over the years. Lots of backstabbing and BS. There are many clubs that won’t go to ECNL based on history and principles.

I mean, just look at NJ and the monopoly that they have let PDA and Match Fit Surf Create. How do you let one club have 3 teams in one state? And 2/3 clubs are terrible in all age groups.

Fact is, a lot of the legacy clubs have prevented quality clubs from joining, for fear of competition.

If you want to maximize the amount of money earned clubs need both girls AND boys teams involved in top leagues.

GA and ECNL girls are the same thing. ECNL has a few more top clubs, but the leagues themselves are roughly the same.

MLSN and ECNL boys are not the same MLSN is the top tier and ECNL is the 2nd tier. Basically with boys clubs make A LOT more money with MLSN than ECNL.

This is why MLSN partnering with GA is such a big deal. If clubs want MLSN they need to put their girls in GA. If clubs want to leave GA they'll get booted from MLSN.

Make sense now? It used to be that MLSN and GA ignored each other and ECNL would leverage ECNL girls + force clubs into ECNL boys. Now shoe is on the other foot and MLSN + GA are doing the same thing to ECNL clubs.

This is why you're not seeing any movement. The big leagues are playing chicken. But soon there will likely be a large block the goes to MLSN and GA at the same time. This is because clubs make more money with MLSN and GA

To be fair, there are no legitimate/reliable rumors at this point. The landscape is changing, we just don’t have anything concrete yet.

It doesn’t help that folks are throwing random rumors or throwing around false information, causing people to panic.

I just love needling the ECNL hats.

They spent so much time and effort (and $$$) getting into a club that could implode before our eyes.

Soon we'll see how it all unfolds.

This has been true my area, although one big GA team recently joined. Even so, both really use the ECNL brand/college connection to recruit top players from across our state. Honestly, though, instead of marketing, it'd be great to see all the leagues, even the top USYS, play for one title on the field. Instead, each one has their own nattys.

If clubs prioritize boys over girls and leave ECNL to goto MLSN/GA they will lose players big time. Many ECNL clubs are not run with good ethics and the only thing holding them together is ECNL patch on the uniform. Even some solid clubs will lose quality players if local ECNL teams are around.

It’s going to be interesting on what is better for clubs bottom line and how this all shakes out.

But my daughters club is GA/MLSN and is being offered ECNL but has to be full membership which our club board is considering. Boys side isn’t a strong MLSN club but does well enough.

You lost me at “GA and ECNL are the same thing.”

Too many airheads in this forum. What are you going to get out soccer anyway? Everybody relax and let the kids have fun and focus more on academics. So many smart kids (strong academics) make Ivys and T20 with merit based scholarships without any of this drama.

Soccer is good for the kid’s well being and is not meant to but cut throat competition like if your life depends on it. This is crazy!

Clubs make a lot more money off boy players, because so many more boys play therefore they can have 5 boys teams for one year and maybe only 2 girls teams. The lower level teams are the real cash cows.

Like youth soccer, what you write here seems full of contradictions. If ECNL clubs aren't ethical why would your club want anything to do with them, especially if there was another higher level program? If your club does well enough in MLSN, why even consider the switch?

Only sane comment in this thread. 600+ pages arguing over whether a 3/4 month change in age grouping will advantage/disadvantage a child. This change is irrelevant to any kid actually going somewhere with the sport.

The other page speculating about McLean and NVA leaving ECNL is a very interesting read. It sounds like there are some corrupt coach(es)

Nobody is prioritizing boys over girls.

Clubs are prioritizing 4-5 teams per age group if they have MLSN vs 1 maybe 2 teams per age group if they have ECNL boys.

Girl dads aren't able to comprehend why boys choose MLSN over ECNL boys. This is because Acadamies, contracts, $$$, kickbacks for developing players, etc doesn't exist for girls. Girl dads think boys are like girls when they're very different. With boys there are very strong rationale for picking MLSN over ECNL and it starts at a young age. Which translates to more $$$ for clubs that have MLSN.

If you haven't noticed MLSN is implementing MLSN2. Also GA is implementing GA2. They're doing this to give clubs with existing ECNL + ECRL teams a way to switch over to MLSN and GA without breaking up any of their teams. This keep clubs from losing any $$$ when switching over.

To the people that don't understand that from a league level ECNL and GA are almost exactly the same from a league prespective. Take your ECNL hat off and literally look at the different events the different leagues host. They're almost identical. Trust me your crappy club that losses all the time in ECNL will have the same results in GA once you start playing the big national level clubs.
