The press are just as disgusting as the politicians who do nothing. I’m sick of people turning tragedy into profit.

FULLY agree.

Fully disagree. The public needs to see the devastation guns cause.

+1. we need another Mamie Till-Mobley, an open casket when everybody can see what is left of the little angel. in Uvalde, kids were identified by the shoes or clothing, kids had arms and legs severed from the body. when these shootings happen, more and more there are unarmed survivors and dead people. everybody who is hit, dies. ER doctors have been saying this for a while, injuries from shootings now are devastating

I get what you’re saying. But … I think the only ones who will be upset about it are the ones who already care.

And I’ll add that as a parent just the hypothetical thought of my child’s tiny, beautiful little body torn apart makes me feel profoundly sick. I can’t imagine the lived reality of this happening and the vulnerability of having that image shared on the internet where trolls can meme it or make hateful comments. Because you just know there is evil out there that will take a perverse interest in seeing these photos. I could never ask or expect another parent to share the carnage to their child’s body.

Yep. Some kids have now been posting things like “if I die in a school shooting, politicize the hell out of my death. Make my death motivation for change.”

I’ll agree with this if you include gun manufacturers. Do you?

I’m the OP of this post.
I mean, that goes without saying. I’m also saying that there’s secondary victimization going on which is also abhorrent. It goes beyond telling the story at this point. We already know the NRA and GOP are not moved by these images. It’s just salacious and gross to further victimize these communities.

You're more upset about this than you are at people having access to the deadly assault rifles that enabled them to slaughter the girls' classmates.

Nobody said that. Take a breath.

You sound like someone who just doesn’t want to face the consequences of your voting history.

Are you daft? My voting history is for gun control as is my monthly bank debits. You think the media isn’t taking advantage of these communities for ratings? Talk to a Sandy Hook parent.

By virtue of stating offense to the posting of the pic, you said EXACTLY that. You take a breath. And grow a heart.

Who cares about the media? Why are you trying to distract? The kid already had her privacy shattered 1000x worse by the person wielding the gun.

So if you don’t accept them they end up killing 9 year old girls? Sounds like the terms of a terrorist organization. Shame on you for victim blaming and taking the side of this monster.

I don’t think the shooter was mentally ill at all, just fed up. At any rate, I’m not taking the word of the bigoted parents as truth. People can do irrational things for rational reasons. I think that is an uncomfortable truth we need to grapple with. This one doesn’t fit the usual mentally ill/hate crime narrative.

Where are you hearing this?
You think you know more about the mental health of this girl than the parents?

Very little is known about the shooter's gender identity (beyond changing pronouns to be/him, and identifying as male),such as how far down that path the individual had progressed, what, if any, type of care had been provided, or even how long the shooter had identified as trans. I feel everyone should slow down a bit and try not to get ahead of the facts.

It's great that you are quoting me, but how about some attribution?

So I take you’re for releasing their manifesto in the interest of full disclosure then?

The most likely person to be shot with a gun is it's owner. Suicide. That's a fact. You aren't likely to kill a mass shooter with your gun. You're likely to kill yourself or you family member will kill themselves.

26,000 suicides by gun per year. At least some of those wouldn't happen if someone had to use a more timely and less instant death method.

Mental illness -- huge factor

Republicans: "It's not guns, it's mental illness!"

The rest of us: "THEN LET'S DO SOMETHING ABOUT MENTAL ILLNESS"

Republicans: *crickets*

Please just STOP with this line until you're ACTUALLY WILLING TO DO SOMETHING. Otherwise you just repeatedly keep looking like complete clowns spouting disingenuous garbage.

There is a direct correlation between the uptick of mass shootings post 1980 and the closure of mental institutions, which Ronald Reagan spearheaded. You and I both know involuntary institutionalizing people would solve a lot of this but Democrats and Republicans would never, ever go for it.

In 1980, under JIMMY CARTER, the Mental Health Systems Act of 1980 was passed. This bill provided federal grants to local community mental health centers. One year later, the 96th Congress, with a DEMOCRATIC MAJORITY in both houses, repealed the act.

Reagan signed the repeal, which was placed on his desk by Congress, but he was merely following the wishes of the elected representatives of his constituents.

Reagan agreed with the majority of the Democrats that it was better to allow the states to retain control of funding and operations in mental health institutions.

What Reagan did do, as GOVERNOR OF CA (not US President), was to sign the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act in 1972. That bipartisan legislation made mandatory institutionalization of mental health patients by family members and civil courts illegal. That way a bad judge or vindictive relative couldn’t have you locked up indefinitely at a state hospital.

The result of that humanitarian legislation was that populations in state hospitals dropped, but Reagan didn’t directly oversee, direct or cause any hospital closures.

This bickering is disrespectful And insensitive to the middle TN community.

Let’s have a moment here to reflect on what happened, and envelop these families in love and support.

? This isn’t a site they are reading and we are not close by. Where we are close by is the federal government. What is so insensitive?
