Does anyone know of a reputable whoodle breeder? I’m finding that as with rescues, it’s very difficult to assess the breeders online.
Thank you! |
Reputable breeders don't breed mixes. Is there a reason you don't want either a Wheaten or a Poodle? |
Who is breeding all these poodles to create oodles? |
I’ve always had mutts. I don’t care about breed characteristics or history and I don’t want to go to a wheaten show to try to meet a breeder. |
NP. Why do you answer this every time someone asks about a doodle? I have never heard of a whoodle but I can already tell you that a lot of us will think they are much cuter than a wheaten or a poodle. My extended family has had doodles for decades. We were probably converts at the beginning of the fad. I can tell you that every single one in my extended family has been a wonderful, beloved pet. They were all easy to train, affectionate, ideal family dogs. None has shed and none caused allergies. The shortest life was 14 years and one lived to be 18. My 16 year old is still going strong. None had any major health complication. I can't think of one that required surgery. Speaking from my own personal experience, my doodles have all been very active outdoors, love to play and run and go on any walk or hike, but pretty lazy and snuggly indoors. What's not to love? None of my doodles has had the stereotypical qualities of either terriers or poodles (to be fair, none of mine is mixed with terrier). Maybe most purebreds don't either but why do you always have to push them? Wish I could advise, OP, but don't know any whoodle breeders. Good luck. |
I guess what I want is a reputable breeder of mutts or a breeder of a mutt-like breed (eg no major health problems like short snouts, no strong work drive, not too smart, not too big or strong) and whoodles just seem like they would be close to our beloved prior dog. |
the problem is that what you're looking for doesn't necessarily exist. You're either getting a puppy mill or a crazy dog person (at least for pure breeds). I don't think the person who lives on a small farm and has a dog the gets pregnant once or twice and then isn't stressed with more litters is just a myth, the people breeding doodles are doing it for money and that is inherently bad for the female dogs. Most reputable owners spay and neuter- the odds that you are getting an accidental litter are near zero. |
whippet/poodle? |
Do you think all dogs should just be products of male dog finding a female dog in heat in her backyard or at the dog park? All dogs everywhere should be mixed breeds of who knows what breeds? No thought should be given to health or temperament of the litter? Producing healthy puppies should not be a goal? |
OP look on petfinder. I can assure you there are lots of dogs available that are not pit mixes. Or join rescue groups on Facebook. I just joined a lab rescue group on Facebook and there are lots of labs and lab mixes available. |
My friend has a woodle. The dog is a jerk. Just get a standard or mini poodle. |
who do you think breeds doodles? Do you think that dog people take their show poodles and decide to cross them with show retrievers just because? It's either large puppy mills or small scale breeders acting like puppy mills overbreeding dogs from different breeds so that they can have cute sounding doodle names to make some money |
You are stating there is no difference between a reputable breeder and puppy mills. I guess we could all just only rescue puppy mill and irresponsible owner rejects. I mean what incentive is there for them to do any different if the only way anyone should get a dog is from them anyway. I used to have this sanctimonious, narrow view of breeders until I actually educated myself and have learned that there is a such thing as reputable breeding. I’ve had both rescues and a well bred dog from a breeder that only breeds for health and temperament. Who has relationships with the owners of their dogs, who can tell you everything about your dogs parents, grandparents, great grandparents and farther back. From what health issues have cropped up in the lineage to what level of activity to expect, to what they excel at and what they would not excel at. It’s night and day. Both have their merits. |
Anyone have an answer to the question? |
Every reputable breeder I've done business with has been heavily involved in showing a particular breed and breeds because they want to perpetuate lines. Doodle breeders are taking two breeds and hoping the hybrid sells. I'm sure they can give you a long pedigree (at least as long as both side are pure bread, after that you can't get an AKC one), but so any puppy mill can give you a pedigree too |
