Depends on quality, brand, size, custom-ness, etc.

For my house I had quotes from $12K to $37K... 15 windows average size 16 relatively large windows. I ended up going somewhat in the middle for fiberglass windows that preserved the most glass.

A grand a window, give or take (by a lot). Do you know if you want vinyl, wood, fiberglass, something else?

We just did fiberglass. It was $22k for 19 custom-sized replacement windows (so, pocket install versus full frame tear out). These were 16 double hung and 3 casement windows. We did white on white with cross grids (2x2). Every single custom thing you want to do will raise the price. We were quoted half that for vinyl, but I just really wanted a sleeker look and to be able to paint them if I want. I think aluminum clad wood would have been about $2k a window, but I couldn’t get anyone to give me a quote other than “astronomical.” Although it would have been a grand a window for just a sash replacement with builder grade 1 wood windows. We were replacing our 1960s wood windows. They were just a mess. Install took 3 days and so far I like them more than I thought I would.

DCUM (and all my style blogs) had me convinced I needed divided lite wood windows. It’s possible I did 🤔

I meant “simulated” divided light. But anyway fiberglass isn’t wood but they do have this skinny frame that is cool and modern looking to me.

Good wood windows, with simulated divided lights will cost about $2,000 each.

Standard windows- which FYI, no house has them as far as I can tell— 500-750 to replace.

Large windows that are less than 1 ft away from floor- 1000 each window because the glass needs tempering.

Half moon windows- even the small ones— 1200 each window.

Windows last for a long time but they are insanely expensive.

Make sure you get a lot of estimates. On a project like this, I would get a minimum of three and most likely 5-6 because prices vary by the profit margin and advertising budget of the company. Based on my experience getting estimates, do not call places like Thompson Creek who use high pressure sales. Some places I found that were reasonable included (but not limited to): Zen Windows, NoVA Exteriors, Winfield Builders. If you're looking for a place to start with estimates, there are three.

To totally avoid that high-pressured sales pitch, I suggest you look into Kellemer Brothers. No presentation, they didn't insist that both of us be present, no upsale, no "sign right now to get our special deal," etc.
We were thrilled with their approach, knowledge, price, install, and customer service. Our install took two days, and the owner showed up each day to check on things. He brought me roses the first day, and a bottle of wine the second!
Check out their reviews.

Op, first you have to decide whether you want vinyl or wood and how high quality. Top of the line we windows are going to exceed $2000 window, at least during the current market.

A window does not cost 2k, not even top of the line. If you pay that price you used the wrong company.

Do yourself a favor and do a full new construction window rather than replacement. Replacement windows look horrible and make the glass opening smaller.

Including installation? It certainly does.

It certainly does not. You got ripped off by a high profit installer. I bet you spend $5,000 on provia doors too.
