You win! All good windows cost $2,000! What brand of top of the line window did you have installed for 2k each? I bet you’re embarrassed to say. |
Again, you are weirdly invested in this. Get three estimates for top of the line Marvin windows in an expensive zip code and get back to us with the results. |
Sounds like you were ripped off. I had prices alll over the place. Got 8 quotes and saved so much money. But sure whatever helps you sleep at night. At least you bought the window dealer a new boat! Thanks for helping the economy. |
NP. Please go take your meds. |
Sure it does - especially if the window is wood. |
OP here, I don't think I want to spend the money for wood. We have wood now, and our house is 25 years old. I guess over time they have expanded are all stuck, the springs cause them to open up unexpectedly. I don't want to spend $$$ though. I don't think when you have window treatments it will matter. Someone here can try to talk me out of it. I assumed that meant vinyl, but looks like I have some research to do on the diff. types. I don't live in a super old home, FWIW, only 25 yo |
I agree....we went with vinyl because I hated our old wood windows. I could not open or close most of them myself; I was constantly having to have my husband do it. Our new vinyl windows glide effortlessly--I couldn't be happier. We replaced about 23 windows and two sliding doors, for about $18K. |
| Vinyl windows are tacky. But whatever -- we 're in one of DC's historic districts and aren't allowed to replace our current windows with vinyl anyway. And, yes, we're being quoted over $2000 a window. |
I actually haven’t purchased yet, still deciding whether to restore or replace. Sorry to ruin your strange day dream. |
Thank you, glad to see there are two of us. |
Vinyl will have an even shorter lifespan. |
Have you looked into wooden window repair? If you have good windows in a historic district, they should not need to be replaced. |
There are so many factors that go into this. You can get away with a lot more styles if your home is post-1950. |
| I am surprised the climate change folks haven’t gone after vinyl yet..... |
If you think vinyl is bad, you should learn about how glass is made. |
