I'm trying to get my son into Alexandria, so he can beat up on the rest of the teams in CCL. Now all these other teams are leaving? WTF? Where do I go now?
As if stealing $350K per year isn’t enough, they want you to donate more. The nerve of these bozos.
For what it is worth, ASA does a lot to make soccer accessible to all. Close to half the players receive some kind of financial assistance and they run several completely free leagues at title 1 schools. It is an organization that I am glad to help support.
While my kid was playing soccer, we noticed a very disturbing parent kid exchange on the opposing team. Everyone saw it - it very broadly hinted at abuse at home (if you can scream and threaten to hit your child in public over a missed kick on a first grade team, who knows what happens in private). We wrote our concern to ASA and heard ZILCH. I understand it isn’t their place to intercede on a family but this was on the soccer fields and something should have been said or extra eyes maybe to look at for that kid. ASA didn’t care enough to respond. I still get sad when I think about that sad and scared little boy that day. ASA likes to say they are there for the community and the kids but I saw otherwise. No support from me.
This was rec? Contact the parent coach. He/she is a volunteer, but might have already contacted cps.
Alexandria talks a big game and does provide access to lots of local kids who wouldn’t otherwise have the financial resources to play “travel”. But they’re not as great as they say they are. They’re better on the boys’ side and very meh on the girls.’ Lots of smoke and mirrors.
Speaking as a volunteer youth coach, parents can be extremely difficult to deal with and it only seems to be getting worse unfortunately. Hopefully that family was addressed in private. I would hope privacy restrictions would prevent any club from discussing a child at risk with a random parent.
