Two Rivers 4th vs Hyde Addison

Anonymous
We're in a weird situation where we're considering both. Currently at two rivers and have done pk3&4. Accepted to hyde for K. Thoughts on teachers and communities? We're not unhappy with tr4, just not loving it either. In this situation bc of a recent move, but commute isn't a big issue bc of work situations. Thanks for any insight

Can you elaborate on what you don’t love about it? We matched for PK3.

Go Hyde - nice new facility and path to Hardy / Wilson (for now)

We had a bad lottery number and got shut out of both, but in your situation, I would choose Hyde. We thought it seemed like a good school, with good leadership. We also didn't like that the playground at TR4 faces onto a busy street. Just seemed dreary.

Hyde - no brainer.

Note the Hardy/Wilson path will almost certainly change. There will be a new 'Western' HS soon. I'm guessing it will become Wilson-lite. (Same demographic makeup)

(It'll take most of Hyde, Stoddert, Mann, Key, Eaton, and O-A)

The middle school realignment will be messier - since unpacking deal will be harder.

Oh good point on the path change. Welp, maybe we take a chance though...

I think my impression might be biased by a teacher we didn't like AT ALL in pk3 (and parents with older kids had told me they didn't like her either, she's all drill sergeant, no love or nurturing for creativity), but I've also been really unimpressed by the administration interactions ive had. That being said, i also have spoken to parents who work at private schools who think TR communicates better than private schools. So idk, pretty your mileage may vary, i guess.

Without specifically addressing either school:

1. What type on interaction did anyone have with any admins (or anyone) in a virtual world? If I started a job this year or met a spouse this year and had interactions only with my office or new in-laws in this environment it would be bananas to conclude that's what it would be like once back in he office or in person for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
2. You've been trying to do pk3 for half a year and all of pk4 in a virtual environment. Those grades are damn near impossible to do virtually no matter the school.
3. Not sure on what commute is preferable, but do not discount the importance.
4. Playground becomes much less important the older your kids get. You start to care about test scores, progress, behavioral issues, classroom management, personalization of coursework for your kid, etc. Not that it doesn't matter, but let's just say ECE parents' focus is...targeted.
5. Asking for advice on an anonymous forum (especially this one) where people have an axe to grind and/or may be behind you in the lottery and wanting a seat to open up is sort of silly.

1 - a lot of interaction. Probably more than we did during pk3 in person. People did still talk on phone and email over the past year bc that was the only way to get things done. My interaction commentary is based mostly on what I experienced in pk3 in person though. I think they handled virtual learning as well as anyone can with prek.
2 - We did all of pk3 in person. That was the 2018-19 school year
3 - agree
4 - is green space a better word? There's zero at tr4. Hyde has a soccer field.
5 - welp, then we should just shut the whole board down, huh? It exists to get random anecdotal answers.

Definitely Hyde. Don't hesitate.

In exact same situation, different grade. We had a great teacher at TR4 this year but I'm worried about the future of the school given the leadership changes. But is it enough to leave and 25 minute commute with traffic?...I don't know.

Us too....if we just had our younger child we would take it in a heartbeat. On the fence about switching my older child.

Tough call, but as a parent of a long time student at the Young campus, I'd be very tempted to try Hyde, as TR is no longer working for us.
Totally underwhelmed by current TR leadership.
Exhausted by being impressed upon how lucky we should feel that we are attending the school.
Weary of the other parents who drink the TR Kool Aid.
My child is no academic star, so needs more academic focus, less attention to community building, social issues, etc.
Early on, I was impressed by Two Rivers' commitment to social justice and community--but now I'm left with the impression that it's performative and at the expense of academic instruction.

Hyde! I would take Hyde in a heartbeat.
