ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Let’s just goto Grad Year! Especially since college soccer as we know it is dying.

ECNL can just copy MLS biobanding rule, to allow 3/4 Q3/Q4 players to move down. This will smooth out the hard transition next year.

It is good for trap players, good for ECNL, and bad for GA. ECNL will immediately increase its college recruiting by getting talented Q3/4 players from GA.

If that happened, wouldn't GA then do the same, especially now they have their alliance with MLS?

Are we trying to bury GA? I think two leagues is a good thing. Keeps the other trying to get better.

Agreed! And if you really wanted to eliminate RAE you’d have two platforms with different age cut offs, and let kids play for clubs where they are getting the most development.

Both GA and ECNL target college recruiting as their selling point. Now ECNL will align itself perfectly with the strongest SY team. GA will only pick mediocre Q1/Q2 players with no hope for college recruiting.

There's what 2.5M+ million youth soccer players and that should grow as we head toward the World Cup, right? Plenty of elite players to go around. In fact, even USYS has some great players/clubs (and despite the growth of the others has the largest footprint).

Let's stop using the word elite with any us soccer player. The US can and has produced good players but has yet to produce an elite player or even a great player.

There is zero evidence that college soccer at least on the women's side is dying. It may change but still strong. Men's side is dying if they go pro --- it may be better for soccer but not for college soccer.

🤣 on women’s side, plenty. On men’s there have been a couple; Clint and Christian - and before you go sour on Clint, he was absolutely considered an elite player at that time and his analytic stats backed that up vs his peers.

I don’t think you’re aware of how much growth the men’s side has made in professional soccer in the past 10 years. Maybe update your priors?

Are you serious, Clint and Christian elite? How about you update your standards?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Back on track…

I heard ECNL is scrambling and is now thinking of making a push to do something next year about BY/SY given GA’s moves.
